***STOLEN/LOST***NOKIA N97, at The Hive, Edinburgh ( IMEI 356064039358920 )

Found 31st Jan 2010
My distraught 18 year old daughter had her Nokia N97 mobile stolen (or lost?) from her handbag in THE HIVE, EDINBURGH on Thursday night into Friday 29/01/2010 (at 01:00 hours). A blackberry and an IPhone were also "lost" as well as some wallets. She has all her details on the 'phone and was totally devastated by the incident...she was wearing her small handbag, closed, at the time too. Anyone with any help in getting 'her life' back please please help! Thanks

Yes, thanx. She was alert enough to call Vodafone immediately after getting friends to try phoning her number (her phone was switched off by then). Blocked and IMEI notified to police. She's a student so...no insurance either.

Yeah but if you'd seen how upset she was you'd try anything to restore her faith in others! There is always a glimmer of hope....

Check in case your home insurance policy covers the loss.

Well that's bloody stupid, that was the first thing i did when i became a student. it only costs like 70 quid for the year from Endsleigh. :?

Have spoken to vodaphone today about my lost/stolen sim and the operator was adament any calls made could be traced to an address, even calls made during the last week. Don't hold out much hope for her phone being returned but hope it is.

Good luck with that....hope you don't find out that it's a neighbour or someone you know! It's positive feedback 'though and encouraging that Voda are 'on the ball'. Insurance from Voda was £9.99 but there were so many 'get outs' and small print items. (e.g. student!) Thanx again.

This is why i take my old phone and only a certain amount of money with no cards (except student card) out on a night.

Good luck though

The same thing happened to my daughter recently, phone and wallet with all her cards lost/stolen. She learned a lesson, BUT through facebook someone traced her and she got her cards back (except for her dining card!)-a glimmer of hope for you daughter.
The phone was not recovered but she has bought a cheap payg to take out in the evenings.

Just to let you know there are some lovely people out there - this happened to daughter last year - her phone was stolen from her bag in a nightclub in Swansea where she is a student, and a couple of days later I had a phone call from a chap in Cardiff who said his son had found the phone in McDonalds in Cardiff ! He then even drove all the way to Swansea to deliver the phone back to her - amazing :-)

Thanks...unfortunately LV has said that "as it wasn't in a secure place like someone else's home(?) or a locked establishment like a bank safe(?) or in a shop for repair it is not covered"!!! Been with them since 2000 and never made a claim....nice to know that my good history has swayed their answer...NOT!

Bet it doesn't cover your mobile outside the student accommodation/university campus area 'though. Worth reading the small print...i thought household covered it but...NO.

Damn there is software out there for symbian nokias (includes the N97) that will send you a text message with the criminal's SIM identifier and their number if they put a new sim card in your phone. You can also send a text message to have all your information deleted. It will also record phone conversations and send you the call via MMS. Got it on my N95 8GB, works a treat but locked me into a contract with 3 unfortunately :-)

I have found a phone at a club once and waited ages after for the person to finally meet me to take it off me, don't know why I bothered though didn't seem that grateful.
