    Strange question...

Creating a consent form for people to sign. Collecting a few details in and then asking if people don't mind to be sent a few details in the future via email.

Bearing in mind they will have a pen in their hand, and will be filling in a few details (and obviously I want them to allow me to send information) would it be better to write...

"Please tick this box if you do not want to be contacted in the future"

    or

"Please tick this box if you don't mind being contacted occasionally"

    or

"By leaving this box blank you are agreeing for your details to be used in this way"

That make sense? My wife has confused me...

    Cheers

I think, psychologically, if people are 'using' a pen, and have the option to opt out by ticking something they will be more likely to tick it. My wife doesn't agree.

You don't want to alienate people by appearing to be trying to 'trick' them in to getting emails sent. I'd go with 'if you wish to opt out tick the box'. I think you'll find most miss it anyway, especially as it would be smaller than the rest of the text and a lot of people just skim read when filling out forms.

Yeah, I definitely don't want that, I wanted to keep it simple (and failing!) and didn't want to get into the whole "please tick this box if you do not don't want to not receive no updates"

Haha yeah that kind of thing really pees me off, and just makes me think the company is dishonest. Maybe say something like "We would like to send you information on future offers/events/ discounts/ info bla bla.. if you'd rather we didn't send please tick here"

I think its common place to have a "tick here if you do not want to receive any offers etc"

but i think it should be an opt in... tick here to opt in.

I like option B as I think it comes across as friendly and polite.

How much do you get for selling on peoples details?.

I'd go with option B too.

Isn't there something happening about this practice that you have to tick the box to opt in rather than the other way round.
