Streaming HD material to the Xbox

Found 7th Jul 2008
I've recently noticed on Newsbin (even though I've been a member for years) the collection of HD formats - HD, 720p, 1080i, 1080p etc. Now the video files are around the 4Gb size mark and I was wondering if anyone streams this sort of content to the Xbox 360. I was going to use WMP11 over ethernet.

Cheers

WMV HD or HD DIVX are the only ones you will be able to stream without recoding them.

Are these good quality?

Well they are hd, but like any media it depends on how it was encoded. WMV HD is probably the best for streaming to the 360 as it has the best compatibility with it.

kool aid...cheers for that

Remember you can put the video files on any USB media, as long as it is read by the XBOX, and play it through that (if you don't wanna stream).

High Def WMV files are the best way to go.

Yeah I have a 2Gb USB stick and normally stick divX movies on it and watch them that way - but wont b big enough for HD

I download WMV HD, but there aren't that many that get put up.
Are you connected by ethernet or wireless?
You will struggle to stream HD files wirelessly.

At the no wired - Wireless is pretty useless - even with DivX i've found

Yeah, since HDDVD went out, so did the WMV HD rips as well. Can't seem to any WMV HD rips anywhere now days.

Most of the WMV HD rips I see listed are ripped from Blueray

Yeah thats true

What are you streaming from? Windows Media Centre PC or Vista or XP using Tversity.com? I use Tverstiy and stream almost anything, including HD material. I think it is usually WMV though.

I find it best to use an external (USB) harddrive to play
HD WMV´s on the 360. Just format it with macdrive,
put films on, connect to your 360 via USB and you´re good to go
