Well... To start i know there are a quite a few other programs that can be used for media sharing to the PS3; for example, TVersity and Nero Home.

But im gonna tell you how to stream media using Windows Media player, as i think it is the easiest method and the quickest... so here goes.

*****THIS IS A TUTORIAL FOR WIRELSS ROUTER USERS. SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT WITH WIRED CONNECTIONS*****

    1. Make sure that your PS3 is switched on, when it turns on leave it on the XMB menu.
    2. Open Windows Media Player.
    3. Click on the little arrow underneath the "library" tab and go down to more options.

    5. Click on "configure sharing".
    6. This window should appear.

You should see and "Unknown Device" as shown on my screenshot. This "unknown Device" is your PS3. You must click on it and select "Allow". This will allow your ps3 access to your Windows Mesia Player library.
    7. If a Security window comes up just select "continue".
    8. After you have done that, you should see a green tick next to your "unknown device". This shows that you computer is know allowing your Ps3 access to your library.

    9. Then click apply and ok on both open windows.

    Now onto your PS3.

    10. First you need to make sure media serving is enabled on you ps3.
To do this, go to settings, down to Network settings, then down to Media Server Connection, and select enable if it isnt already.

    11. You now need to scan for the media server. So go across and select any of the scanners. (the ones that say "Search For Media Servers.)

    12. Give it time to scan, after about 1minute it should say "1 Media Server Found". Press "X".
    13. You then get back onto the XMB menu and under each of the media tabs you will see ths:
    http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m165/399out/found.jpg
This is all the media that is stored in your windows media player library.
    14. To view any of the media simply click on the type of media then search for the file you want to view and press "X".
    15. You can now view any media on your PC without having it stored on your Hard Drive!

Sorry mate but that's all redundant. Media server of choice is PS3 Media Server hands down.
It's a million times better than WMP as a media server and will play MKV files as well
Here is a guide showing how to set it up:]http//ww…tml

thanks for the alternative mate, its pretty good and I did throw some rep for you too but i just thought you were a little rude to the OP, after his effort.

Thanks for the alternative, I will be checking both out.

Out of curiousity, does anyone know if the WMP method supports movies with soft subs?
