Streaming WMVs to Xbox 360 problem

Few experienced 360 users in here so I thought I'd take a punt and see if anyone knows what's wrong here.

Download quite a lot of hidef 1080p WMV movies which I stream to my 360 over the network. Have sharing enabled on my PC and it just picks up the WMV files under my PC in the video library on the 360.

Every 5 mins or so the movie stutters, sometimes it pauses completely and a 'loading' bar appears at the top of the screen for 2 seconds or so. Theres no pattern to when this might happen. Happens during hi motion bits and fairly still scenes.

Both the 360 and my PC are connected directly to a Belkin router, 100mbs.

360 is outputting VGA to my TV @ 720p (don't have a HDMI xbox and the max resolution my tv supports via VGA is 720p) - wondering if this downscaling could be causing the problem??

Any ideas?

its a signal problem...not a fault just interference etc...basically PC's not streaming to router fast enough or router not sending to 360 fast enough

I know it might not be what you want to hear, but have you thought about simply using a usb pen to watch the movies from?

mmmm... well its not very convenient. much easier when i've got a few mates over to just browse the movie library and hit play when we've decided on what to watch. don't wanna have to go 'oh, wait 10 minutes while i copy it to flash'..

I'm not sure if that's sarcasm or not, so i'll just treat it as a proper statement...

Yeh, wmv's and avi.'s work through a usb drive, I use it all the time to play films/tv episodes, just seems to be a simpler, cleaner way of watching films on the 360.

try adjusting the QOS on your router to allow high priority to the xbox. Also make sure that nothing else is using the network at the time if you can.

Lol...nope no sarcasm...just never even thought about it tbh...I dont really have a problem with it jumping though but if I did I can try this trick now, not that I stream much...only thing I use the USB's for is to charge controllers

nice tip thinking more actually as I can just stick films at my mates on a drive then bring home and play through there rather than PC

xvid n divx work through usb card reader too max 32gb works very well

Incase someone out there is reading this and looking for the solution.. turns out it was my router. Switched to a netgear dg834gt and now playback is fine! Seeking is much quicker too :-)
