Student Discount Cards?

Can someone please link me to a site where you can apply for these things? I don't really know where to start but I would like one of those cards that proves you're a student so you can get student prices at places like the cinema etc.

Thanks.

you need to talk to your campus admin.
they should issue you with an NUS card (National Union of Students)
this gives you discounts in lots of places.
then log on to www.nusonline.co.uk and register your NUS card for even more discounts online.
as far as I know, you can only get your NUS card direct from campus

I'm only 16 though, still in Year 11.

ah then you'll need to ask admin or a teacher, I'm not sure if they do discount cards unless you're at college or higher

You will get a student card from your college in September (should you be attending college) which almost all places will accept... an NUS card may cost you around £8 to get and doesn't really get you any extra discounts.

note - only the "NUS Extra" card costs extra, and is a waste of money the free NUS card you get gives you the same discounts really.

I still use my 2006 card from University, works a treat. Gift of the gab and all that, when your working in the real world that 10%-20% extra makes a big differnece.

Have seen them advertised on ebay in the past

My uni charge for the regular NUS card too.
My old card still works with some sites, but not recognised by others - I've even heard of up to date cards not being recognised.

Don't forget the connections (careers service) card. Ideal for 16-18yr olds, Not as many discounts but still useful. College / school will have to sign to say you attend there.

Not entirely - no Amazon 5% or anything like that (mine paid for itself rather quickly) + it saves getting individual cards in alot of places like HMV.

Amazon, New Look and HMV are two places I know of that will only accept NUS Extra.

HMV should let you get their own card with an NUS democracy as proof of student status.

ISIC is usually accepted most places also - and isn't as expensive as NUSextra.. and you can use it abroad.

The NUSEXTRA card now includes ISIC on it for free, and the NUSEXTRA card is £10. I recieved mine about a week ago now!!

I know - I meant a separate ISIC card, it's £7 and gets the nusextra stuff anyway. Waste of £3 for the extra uses (new look)

You can get a Student Card in Year 11 depending on your school - ours did one! You need to talk to the admin of school.

NUS does get you extra, as quite a few shops etc insist on NUS instead of any "random" student card.

NUSextra does you get you more, and within a student campus there are extra discounts on things for the better card. You just need to work out if you will use the discounts to make it worthwhile.
