Stupid weather forecasters

Why is it that most weather forecasters associate one place with an entire country?

What i'm talking about is the recent weather reports stating that Britain is currently as cold as the South Pole
Why do they say this when it's only one small area that is around -20c (at it's minimum) and the rest of Britain being around -3.
Then all the people who view the weather report will be thinking that their local area is then -20c and confusion starts.

-17.5 here in aberdeen. Nice and cold.

Personally I like it when they do a series of local presenters from all around the country competing to be in the coldest area. They all try their best to exaggerate their own place to be the worst off. Coldest in the country/highest snowfall/iciest roads/most school closures. I also did giggle when a full news crew just watched a new car slide silently into the back of a parked car where there was a chap loading the boot. They could have shouted, warned him, maybe even tried to stop the car, but no. They filmed it.

Was -16 in Cheshire this morning!:santa:

yet news said - 22 in Scotland
