Sub £300 laptop?

I know next to nothing about computers and what is standard / necessary these days when it comes to laptops, so I'm looking for someone to point me in the right direction and give me a little advice.

I'm basically looking to get the most for my (rather limited) budget. I have £300 to spend on a laptop for everyday use. It doesn't need to be particularly portable. It must have a dvd writer. It can be new or refurbished.

I'd be using it mostly for accessing the internet, storing music and photos and watching the occasional film.

I'd prefer to buy online. I'm not even sure of the right sort of places to look. I looked on ebuyer and there are a few, but I can't tell the difference between them ... it's like a foreign language to me!

    Can someone suggest some possibilities?

    Thank you.
