Sub-£450 laptop

My sister-in-law needs to buy a laptop for herself and three kids. It will mostly be used for internet and itunes, although might also get some gaming use.

She was talking about buying one in PC World, which made me choke on my tea since I can get better for less at Misco.

Before I dive in, does anyone know of any particularly choice deals out there?

And as a PS, what is the best free firewall/virus set-up these days? AVG?

Saw this today and was very tempted. Great price for a Core 2 Duo - hard drive a bit on the small side though and could probably use an extra gig of ram (£20 or so).…219

I use AVG and it's fine. You'll get a variety of opinions about anti virus software on here though.

Also have a look at dell deals if your looking at that sort of money, You can get a very good laptop from there.

As for free antivirus & firewall -- Antivir + Zonealarm

I use avast and ashampoo for AV and Firewall, they're nice and simple and non-intrusive so they're probably pretty good for a nontechnical user.

what ever she picks make sure she gets full insurance (especially with three kids in house)
