Super simple travel search?

Hi,

My girlfriend and I have booked a week off in July to go away for her birthday... the problem is finding somewhere cheap to go!

I've checked sites like Travelzoo and Tripadvisor but both just show random deals, you can't search for holidays that fall between a specific date and generally they are for flights or accommodation only - no deals combing the two!

It's tempting to just go to travel agents but I imagine we'd end up spending a lot more money that way. Any recommended sites please?!

(we also want to start going away a lot of weekends, but it's similarly difficult to just view good deals for decent hotels on Saturday nights!)

Cheers

trevelrepublic is quite good-you input your dates, choose a selection of airports and choose "flights and hotel"-it then shows you all the cheap flights, you choose that and are then presented with a huge range of hotels available for those dates.

Try these first

skyscanner.net
travelsupermarket.com/fli…hts
opodo.com/

Further screenscrapers to extend your search, many with other strong features, are Zugu, Dohop, Foundem*, Nowfly, Fly.com, Kelkoo*, Momondo, Mobissimo and TravelSpec*. For long-haul flights, also check Travelocity, which some screenscrapers can miss, and Expedia*.

Many thanks, good sites but a lot of them require you to enter the 'To' destination which I don't really want - I'd just like a list of all the best deals for a certain week SkyScanner is kind of what I'm after but the hotels seem very expensive - looking at £1,200+ for us to even go to France or Spain for a week O_o

I also don't like the way all of these sites make you select an airport... I mean, there are quite a few around me, all of which I wouldn't mind travelling to...

Am I wrong or is there a huge gap in the market for a decent search site?

ie

1. Enter your region (I'm more than happy to fly from Bristol, East Midlands, Birmingham, Cardiff or any of the London air ports)

2. Enter your preference of holiday ie ski holiday, city break, beach holiday

3. Enter the dates you'd like to search between

And bam it shows all deals.

Why the hell does every single site force you to chose an airport and exclude all others, and the same with the destination? I don't mind where I go from or where I fly, just want to pick a general holiday type and go from any nearby airport
