Surface Pro 4 (Core M) Questions

So I sold my iPad Air 2 in favour of a Windows based tablet as I loved the little 8" tablet I had. Now I noticed there are a few variants of the Surface Pro 4 including the Core M3-6YXX and the i5.

My question is, is the Core M sufficient for power or would I be better saving for say the i5? I'd be wanting to use Photoshop etc. which I know that the i5 would be more suitable BUT surely the Core M is still as powerful? Photoshop seemed to run fine on the Z3500 series Atom I had in the 8" tablet.

I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole, not the easiest device to repair once it's broken.

I assume you're referring to the actual Surface Pro rather than my question in hand? In addition, repairability isn't something I'm considering as a factor to buying a tablet, personally. If it breaks, it breaks. There's a reason manufactures make it difficult to repair devices.

"Core M is still as powerful...". If that's the case, what is it you're asking exactly? If they are as powerful as each other as you suggest, what does it matter?

The Surface Pro 4 is no more or less repairable than an iPad or one of the current, glued together MacBooks. It's an irrelevant point, anyway. If you want an easy to repair, easy to upgrade laptop then that's what you would buy. This isn't that and isn't meant to be.

I've owned both the Core I5 and Core M versions and there is no real-world difference in performance between the two. If anything, I prefer the Core M as it's fanless, completely silent and gets better battery life (I see around 1 to 2 hours more than the i5).

If you were planning on using the device as more of a main machine, however, I would step up to the 8 GB/256 GB SSD version at least. If it's a companion device to your main computer, then the Core M is an excellent choice.
