It says HDMI interface...I assumed that would be it?! I don't really know what I am talking about and I'm making it up as I go along!!

does it say how many hdmi slots?
should work then, even if you can only get one working through the hdmi you should be able to get one working through optical input - it should have one of those as well.

The amp does not do audio over hdmi if that is important to you. This one ]does.

I just plug my devices into my TV via HDMI and then use the optical output from the TV to my surround system. Saves having to switch inputs on the surround system.

Oh right...Well PS3 does not support true HD surround sound, so does it mater that its not through HDMI?

Another question that one of you fine people may be able to answer...If I get a system that I can plug PS3 and Virgin into, will I have to change the volume on the reveiver or will it automatically change if I turn the TV volume up?

I don't use the TV for volume the reveiver controls the volume for everything.

You can control the volume via the TV if everything is HDMI CEC compliant: en.wikipedia.org/wik…DMI so that means you need Sony Bravia Sync, Pioneer Kuro Link, Panasonic Viera Link etc.

Also lose the hd sound from blu-rays that way.

really? My TV supports 5.1 output via optical out. Cant say I've noticed the sound from blu-rays being anything other than amazing through my TEAC amp.

Yeah 5.1, proper HD audio is higher bandwith and optical can't handle it. … Yeah 5.1, proper HD audio is higher bandwith and optical can't handle it. For DTS HD and stuff. From avforums:DTS HD and Dolby True HD are not passed over optical of coax connections. DTS HD and True HD wil be delivered in two forms - the first being over an HDMI 1.3 connection, and the second being via multi-channel analogue outputs built into the Blu Ray player. For them to be passed over analogue, you would actually require a player that has the ability to decode these lossless codecs internally and none of the first gen Blu Ray Players (inc the PS3) due this year are actually going to boast the ability to do this. The players announced so far will deliver uncompressed PCM and Dolby and DTS as we already know them, and that's about it. You set the TV volume to 0 and leave it on that, and do the volume on the surround sound.

cheers for that. Cant say I can see the sound getting any better on my surround amp (£20 from ebay lol) but I'm not a purist  Prefer the hassle free option of volume on zero and everythin on the TV comes through the amp.

Thanks everyone...although megalomaniac's post about t my PS3 supporting true HD sound has confused me?!

I was under the impression that true HD was 7.1, and PS3 is only capable of 5.1?!

True HD is a codec. It doesn't refer to the amount of speakers.

Plus the PS3 does support 7.1 I believe.

    PS3 can output Stereo, 5.1 and 7.1: manuals.playstation.net/doc…tml

However, 7.1 is only available via HDMI. So you'd need audio over HDMI support on your chosen AV receiver (it's pretty common, almost universal, these days).

All PS3's can decode the formats commonly used on Blu-ray's and DVD's (e.g. Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio etc.), if you have a Slim you can also bit-stream them and use your AVR to decode.

Your all great!! So I can play sound through HDMI then.

I was under the impression that sound had to be played through digital optical out. May be worth while investing in a better amp then?!
