    Suspension spring snapped on car

    HELP

My car started making funny noises on the way home. I went over a speed bump near my house (at about 5 mph) and the was a pretty awful sounding noise.
Basically I can see that the suspension sping had gone on the drivers side.

Anybody got any idea how much this will cost to get fixed (approx)
The car is a 51 place Mondeo Zetec 2L

    thanks in advance
    Pete

yeah around that price, could be a bit cheaper, quite common, in fact the last few months we've done a fair few coil springs on various vehicles, must be the bad roads !

You had many Citroen C3 vehicles come in with this problem? Apparently they all go!

Thanks for the info guys. Really made my day!

Exact same thing on my wifes 2002 1.8 Modeo Zetec......Passengers side snapped on Sunday morning...

It appears Mondeo springs can't take the extreme temperatures ....loads of others complaning in the Mondeo Forums....

You also need to change BOTH as they usually get done in pairs !

I was quoted £213 for both which is slightly more than i would expect but ****** doing it myself in this weather ...:-D

Car goes into garage on Thurs......:)

If you do it yourself you will also need the correct tools .....eg. Compression Tool to fit the spring......

I have a vectra and they eat coil springs.lol
Look here for the part about £70 for 2 left and right hand side.
As you need to change both at the same time.
I changed 1 then 4 day after the other.
    Parts £70.00 ish £80/£100.00 labour.

Cold weather ,mates vectra went yesterday ,

It works out cheaper getting lowering springs but it may not be your cup of tea

    For a set mk1/2 mondeo it's £65

Looking for standard springs just now

    Will edit this post

it is easy if you know what your doing, but the mondeo front springs are a pain in the backside to compress with standard coil spring compressors, we have a hydraulic floor standing unit, becomes very easy then

Mine went last week Ford Ka, cost me £92.00 fitted.Mechanic said it was the 4th one he had done on a Ka that week and it was only wednesday...

I have a corsa c, simple to do on that car.

Agree that that way is easier to compress them

@peter if mk3 springs work out at around £80-150

    mk2 standard are around £80

    It's a mk 3

Thanks for all the useful and generally depressing info everybody

Yeah , just about to mention , it's a common problem with the Vectra too.............as someone has mentioned.
Mine snapped a couple of years ago , it's an MOT failure too , so you have to change them . I changed them all on my ageing Vectra ,buying the parts from my local motor factors , 2 front springs ,2 rear HD springs and 2 rear shockers .Total cost about £160. If anyone is thinking about changing springs themselves ,watch out for those spring compressors ................they can easily jump off and do alot of damage .

wise words  they can be lethal if they let go, the decent ones have a safety chain on them to stop the compressor launching themselves off the coil straight at your head !!
