Swine flu, biggest pile of pig crap ever!

    Banned
Everyone's catching it but only 0.00001% of people are dying why is everyone so scared? I'm not! More people die from the seasonal flu than this.

    Wait till winter.

cos the papers have hyped it up, not everyone knows the figures from seasonal flu etc or even know people die from it!!, but are getting the swine flu ones rammed down their throat

It is completely hyped up, I have to agree. The treatment for swine flu is the same as seasonal flu - bed rest and plenty of fluid.

What alot of people don't realise that the only people who have died having the flu have also had other serious health problems.

    Pure coincidence? I think not

not dangerous to anyone who's healthy. Still affects people obviously, but not fatally.

Absolutely - if swine flu kills you, seasonal flu would've done so too.

No because ther is a vaccination for seasonal flu,the high risk people who have died from swine flu would have been vaccinated against seaonal flu and would not have died, You shouldnt say that something which is killing people is "Hype" ,Imagine how you would feel losing a family member,

my sis works in nhs - they've had regular meetings discussing such things as mass burial sites etc

we should all take appropriate reasonable precautions

once autumn comes along this could wipe the smiles off all our faces when people we know start to die

hope to god it doesn't, but we shouldn't be complacent

    tonyg1962;5709853

No because ther is a vaccination for seasonal flu,

It was based on the assumption that no vaccination would be available for either......

Seasonal Flu kills thousands of people worldwide each year - this is no different.

Does anyone know, is this the kind of thing that once you've had it you don't get it again, like chicken pox? Or is it just like normal colds and flu?

Its to over hyped. I know 2 people that have got it. One didnt want the Tamiflu and is recovering and another can be let out of isolation on saturday.

1 Said normal Flu is ALOT worse than this.

once you have had it, then you are resistant to that variation. Of course, flu mutates though.

Quite the opposite, I've found the media have been mentioning it quite heavily so as not to cause panic.

As usual with these things, the correct response is somewhere in the middle. It's not to be snorted (ho ho) at like the OP is, nor is it something to unduly worry those who aren't susceptible to complications from any illness.

It's just being British we need to talk about something and the weather isn't too hot at the moment so we feel uncomfortable silence with rhubarb like this.

I am glad it's being talked about.

Discussion creates awareness, and often being aware can actually make some people less fearful, as they develop a plan of action.

I've sent my son into school today, aware that he is a little run down, he appears to have come down with a cold. My daughter also looks to be going the same way, and my husband hasn't gone to the gym this week, and has swapped his early shift for a late shift because he feels so rough, and is making the most of bedtime (to sleep for those naughty minds ;-) )

Today I am informed that a child above my sons has been diagnosed with Swine flu. It's the first case known in the school. I appreciate knowing, and will watch my own in case their symptoms worsen, but at the moment I think it is the run of the mill cold for them - fingers crossed.

Remember when Jade Goody died, and people said it created awareness for whatever it was she died from....

Maybe we need a celebrity clearout/sacrifice to get the message out about swine flu.

I'm not saying I want someone famous to die from swine flu....I'm just wondering if we really need ALL the ex-Sugababes:whistling:

I've had it and even though I felt like crap for a week, looking back it wasn't that bad. I suffer from quite bad Asthma, and even though it flared up because of it, it was no worse than when I used to have attacks in my teens 10/15 years ago.

I was diagnosed over the phone from my symptoms, but not prescribed tamiflu; just told to drink loads and get plenty of rest (which is easy cos you CBA to move when you've got it).

My niece was ill this week and my sister called NHS direct... On discussing the symptoms she was told she had a virus too.

Now, yes. At the start, no.

I don't mind it being discussed. What I object to are the over flamboyant headlines like 'MAN DIES OF SWINE FLU', then later in the article it'll mention that he had serious underlying health problems (in much smaller print no less).

The talk about mass burials is rubbish. This strain is quite mild its not going to kill you - even those in the at risk groups are also unlikely to be seriously affected (a very small proportion will but most won't)

Its estimated that 10000 people die from seasonal flu each year - only 14 people have died in the UK - so lets keep things in perspective

Public health directors have had pandemic flu plans for years and they not going to let an opportunity like this slip by.....even if its not fully deserved.

It seems according to history and the bible, that we have epidemics which wipe out some of the population. Maybe this is natures way...who knows.
i will of course take measure, especially having an asthmatic son. I agree though, we are only seeing the beginnings. Over the next few months will be the testing time.

P.S healthy living, build up your immune system and keep positive
