If you believe the media we'll all be dead in a week, we'd better bulk buy bog roll and butter and wait for the rapture.

Nothing like a bit of media scaremongering to get us to spend during a recession..

Yeah tell the 170 dead people " pull yourselves together ,Its only scaremongering,"

By the way it looks like the people who were worried about there holidays in Mexico are going to be offered holidays elsewhere which must be good news,Unless of course they just had flights booked,

I very much doubt they read HUKD.

i agree tonyg1962...........or those on imuno-suppresents for illness which means they are highly likely to catch it if they are in contact with anyone with the slightest bit of the infection..........i'd rather be safe than sorry.

anyone considered buying tamiflu/relenza off the internet?

I'm sure people are still trying to flog all the meds they bought for the Bird Flu pandemic that wiped out half the world's population..

I wouldnt buy anything from the internet,Why risk the chance that you are just taking sugar pills when at the first signs you can walk into your GPs and get it on prescription,

I would say there is one advantage to this scaremongering - you havent heard much about the credit crunch in the last 2 or 3 days have you?

starsparkle2311;5056948

Thomas Cook have just cancelled all flights to Cancun:thumbsup:

The best thing is a woman whos husband works in Cancun spoke to her husband on the phone and he said it was the first they had heard of it,

R5 this morning had a County Durham GP on who said he had a guy in yesterday with a script for Tamiflu and the manufacturers wouldn't release any to him to prescribe, stating "they needed more information from the government" or something like that.

It may be that stockpiling is taking place rather than any old tom dick or harriet with a sniffle using up the resources.

I didn't think the chicken flu one was that bad, but I have a feeling this one will take hold if not contained. Don't believe what the media is making out of it, but some of the people that are in the profession on Sky News have stated negative feedback 'should concentrate on healing people when they get the virus' - Seems to me that they already think its going to take hold.

To me looks like a man caused/made virus.

Pretty safe ordering from somewhere like pharmacy2u though. You certainly won't just be able to get it from the gp if it does turn out the be a proper pandemic, we don't have enough stocks, only the elderly and vulnerable will get it.

lol:thumbsup:

The only high mortality rate has been in Mexico (a developing country). America has had forty confirmed cases with only one person hospitalised.

I'll hold off on the panic until the W.H.O. gives a clearer idea of mortality and transmission rates.

yes, it's usually the 2nd and 3rd waves that have the higher mortality rates

What media reports are you talking about? I haven't noticed any 'scaremongering' at all. Quite the opposite in fact, but I get my daily intake of news mainly from Radio 4, the Guardian and Newsnight. Where do you get yours?

Ha, this UK isn't run by Guardian readers. It's the Heat magazine readers that drive this country. And if Alesha Dixon thinks we're screwed then we're screwed.

Oh really, um should I call you doctor?

On a serious note though, is that based on the works of renowned scientist Tom Clancy or Ian Fleming?

Do we need a suave, misogynistic relic or a gruff young Jack Ryan type?

Or, in your professional opinion, would the amnesiac hero Jason Bourne be better suited to this? Maybe it's linked to Treadstone.

Can you please just do us all a massive favour and post in the misc forum of a shopping website (preferably this one) when you think we need Jack Bauer.

Thanks.

Oh dear. Why do you post.

Viruses have been caused before because of man 'made' materials, farming, etc. It came out of Mexico, so no I think your insinuating conspiracy theory, I'm merely saying its likely to been caused by farming for example in a certain way, not saying that is been caused in that way but its plausible.

As you know Viruses adapt, this one is said to be originaly occupied in Chickens and in Swine, or so I have read.

i tend to agree with the man made story. It's a strange virus made up of all sorts of genetic material (pig, bird and human from different regions of the world) that shouldn't just pop up in mexico!

telegraph.co.uk/new…tml

The outbreak in Mexico seems to involve a new type of swine flu that contains DNA that is typically found in avian and human viruses.

"We are very, very concerned," World Health Organisation (WHO) spokesman Thomas Abraham said. "We have what appears to be a novel virus and it has spread from human to human... It's all hands on deck at the moment."

It is genetically different from the fully human H1N1 seasonal influenza virus that has been circulating globally for the past few years. It contains DNA that is typical to avian, swine and human viruses, including elements from European and Asian swine viruses

Call me stupid, well call me wot ya want actually, but the bird flu never bothered me. However, i have a funny feeling about this one.
i dont think its gonna kill everyone but i defo think its gonna do the rounds here.

The RNA in flu viruses is able to mix within a cell and come out as a new strain. Add to this the fact that pigs are considered a great incubator for human strains as they are very close to us biologically and you have swine flu.
