I only earn £1100 a month and i have 8 direct debit's. Any help any advice would be great if you know what bank i should switch too. Cheers

Barclays are good

I can recommend First Direct and they give you £100 when you join

yes I went from Barclays to First Direct over year ago. they've been great up to now. Very easy to do..

I applied to switch to First Direct this afternoon. They are currently offering £125 incentive.

First need to consider what your looking for in a bank account, everyone's needs are different,

First Direct does always seem to come out well in all the reviews, haven't used them myself, but be careful they may not be for you , as the account has a £10 monthly fee, but this is waived each month you either pay in £1,000, have an average monthly balance of £1,000 or hold selected other accounts with First Direct.

Why are Barclays terrible?
Been with them 20+ years myself with multiple accounts and mortgages and never had an issue

I would not say any institution is good or bad. However no one bank is going to offer the best deals for savers and borrowers over a long period of time and therefore to get the best for oneself a bit of effort is required to search out best products.

M&s we're offering £230. Not sure if the deal is still live. Why don't you go the MSE site or Which where they actually review these things. Otherwise you will get entirely subjective responses. I bank with Lloyds, they have been excellent for me, but are no doubt disliked by others.

just rang first direct. i get £100 if i switch and apply online, or £125 if i apply on moneysupermarket before feb 28th and switch too first direct that way. i need to bring in £1000 in a month for the first 3 months to get my free £125, if i work part time earning say £600 a month im then £400 short, she said that doesnt matter if i have savings and put £400 out of my savings into account once a month (and you can take it back out into your savings account and then do it again the next month) this still counts as £1000 in a month. now the catch is i will have to pay £10 a month for this account, but after 6 months i may not have to pay no more £10 a month depending if i have a morthage or savings etc. hope this helps others out too. only question i forgot to ask her is what if i was to leave between the 3 - 6 months as i could then switch over to another account for more free money. she also said i will have close to my account in full with barclays to get the £125? boo hoo.

I think you can get away with not paying the £10 if you open a savings account and put £1 into it.

first direct are very very good, was offered £125 to switch, then if i left after 6 months i would get another £100. After 6 months i did consider switching but they are so good i didnt want to leave. i got a gold credit card which meant i didnt have to pay the £10 month.

you need to consider different banks. but somethimes you need to visit banks. so a high street bank is good. Santander give cash back on direct debits and have local branches.
