    Swoopo, Whats the deal here?

On the home page it looks like they are selling stuff at silly low prices but having read all the bumph on site it seems to be the real price is actually 5 times the cost on the auction.
    Is this not false advertising??

If you're lucky enough you can actually buy stuff for silly money. BUT it would cost a fortune in buying bids.
So I reckon they are best to steer clear of.
Dont think its actually false advertising as they do sell the stuff for the actual prices.

Correct. They do sell the stuff at the closing price but it costs each person 50p to put a bid in that rasies the item by 1p so a PS3 might go for £30 say. Wow, bargain. to get it to £30, people have paid 50p for each penny increase, £30 equeals 3000p, 3000 x 50p equals £1500. Now where's the bargain. Just huge profit for the company that runs it and a lot of disappointment to the ones that lose a lot of money trying. Good luck if you give it a go. You'll need it.

It's like a gambling site IMO. People are drawn to low priced goods, when they look in real time how much they've spent in the space of 5 minutes they will realize that it's nothing more than a con.

I asked the same question - and the basic answer was stay well clear

its not a con, you just have to do the maths.

if you want a punt (and it is like gambling - poker ?) go for the cheaper stuff at an unsocialble time of the morning (3am).

I had a go before xmas and wasted my time and £20 hoping for a ps3. I got nowhere. I had a few bids left and went for a wii music for the kids. it was at 3 in the morning and I put it on autobid ( I wasnt going to stay up) and got it for 70p.

overall cost 25.70 which is pretty much what it would have cost in shops but I also got a free lesson in dont waste your money on these sites, so class myself lucky.

    DO NOT BOTHER!!

If the bid acutally ended the time it ends you would have a great chance of winning and it would be an amazing site. When you put a bid in last minute, the time goes back up everytime
so basically there just getting 50p for every 1p the auction goes up

so if the auction for a wii goes to £100 which is cheap to buy!
they are getting 50p for every penny of that

how many pennys in £100 / how many 50p's is that

    rip off merchants

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Original Poster

WOW 50P PER PENNY, LOL I MISREAD AS 50 PER 10P BID
taht means it's actually selling for 50 times the listed price, think that settles the ripoff question..

I’ve used Swoopo in the past but there are so many using it now it is SO hard to win, bidding against people from other countries as well. I found another one that is launching soon called Doobids. I’d be surprised if anyone knows about it because I have not seen them advertising anywhere yet. They are getting around Facebook as a fan page but they seem a bit different from the others though because they have put extra features on it making the whole process of bidding slightly more transparent, doesn’t look as much like a scam! Theres a security certificate as well which is really important for secure transactions. UK company registered and VAT registered. Might be worth a punt for those that care.
