Taking a private hire taxi - asking the driver to wait while I drop off/pick up something?

A random question about taking a private hire taxi.

I have a heavy parcel that I need to mail at the post office, just wondering if I take a private hire taxi there, is it OK to ask the driver to wait for me for about 4-5 min while I have it sent and then take me back home? I'm guessing there is a charge per each minute that they wait?

Thanks! Would I need to tell them on the phone when booking that I will need the taxi to wait for me or can I just tell the driver when he arrives to pick me up?

Cant you use a courier cheap? would work out better than a taxi and RM costs.

well if you phone the private taxi company and tell them you want the driver to take you to the post office wait and then take you back they should give you a price for before they even send you one....

its called wait and return and usually about 20p a minute waiting time

well most private taxi firms will quote you the price of a journey unless their vehicles run on a meter in which case they are a hackney cab and not a private hire.
