    could anyone tell me if a wireless dongle connected to a talk talk tv box with a usb ethernet adapter , would connect to my home wifi, the box has no built in wi fi

    Nope.

    It's difficult to tell whether the second one is a USB ethernet dongle or just a plug converter so you can use CAT5 cable for USB but neither are going to work. USB devices need to be connected to USB ports to function, they're not standalone.

    To connect a device with an ethernet port to a wi-fi network you need something capable of acting as a wi-fi bridge. Various routers, access points, repeaters and so on have this functionality.

    i was using one of these, but kept losing connection

    I use a sky wireless adapter or have used powerline adapters

    I use powerline adaptors, no problems at all, one less thing on the wireless network too.
