    tech help needed

    Hi all, rep for help.

In the last hour or so all sound has stopped on my laptop. When i reboot it's all ok for a few minutes, then I can't hear anything from it at all, nothing is set to mute, and the litte equaliser in the sound menu still moves up and down showing there is sound playing.
I have reinstalled the most up to date driver but it's still the same, there is no sound through earphones either.
I'm windows vista service pack 2 btw.
    Cheers for any help.

No, nothing at all, all i've done today is turned my laptop on, downloaded a podcast or 2 in itunes, and watched some youtube videos.

Try system restore. it will not touch any of your saved files all it does is make windows act the way it did to the day you ask it to restore too... completely safe and worth a try

only other thing i can think of (if jonnys thing doesn't work) is it could be possibly a faulty motherboard.

Probably best off seeing if anyone else has any ideas first

I recently had a virus/malware that disabled my sound card - uninstalled it actually - system restore etc wouldn't work - had to reinstall windows in the end.

Hope it isn't the same problem.

Have you looked in your device manager to see if the sound card is still there?

Do a scan, try a restore.

Soundcard is in device manager, with nothing out of the ordinary.
Have completed reinstalling Windows, and the problem persists; sound for the boot-up, then maybe a few minutes of sound, before complete silence.
