Tech help - windows 7 please

Can anyone help with windows 7??

Had it about 2 months and all of a sudden its going really slow and keeps freezing, I've not installed anything on it since I got it, have put a few photos on but thats it.

Is there anything I can do that can speed it up or that I can look at to tell me what the problem is, Its much worse when I'm on the net if that helps??

Speak slowly i'm blonde ;-)

THANKS!!!

Have you got decent Anti-Virus, Firewall, and anti-spyware/malware protection?

I think it very possible you have some fomr of virus/spyware or malware...not certain though....usually those things like Norton are trials and thus useless...but not always. Is it a full version or trial?

Trying installing and running this program:

download.cnet.com/Gla…col

It is completely 100% free, with no trial periods or anything like that. It contains some useful tools for speeding up your computer. I use it on my Windows 7 laptop

Also, look for a programme called Malware Bytes if you are concerned you may have a virus or spyware. Again, free and windows 7 compatible

You would be best to download and run the free version of malwarebytes before you try anything else

I was about to list some possible solutions softwares including malware bytes...but she shouldnt need a system enhancer if its a new system which makes me feel its a infaction of some kind. once I establish if norton is trial or not I will list programmes that COULD help,,,,

well ok I'll list them

from filehippo download

Spybot Search and Destroy

Malwarebytes

and Comodo personal firewall.

Also you may want to look into removing/uninstalling Norton and installing Avast home edition 5

all are free and great

Is it a desktop PC? Do you have a Sata Hard Drive?

It could be something as simple as a loose sata cable?

Can you do a 'System Restore' to before when the problem started?

Problem found!

Most probably software related

However perhaps a stick of ram has gone down?

Check that

Also Could be dodgy graphics card or drivers.

Try updating graphics drivers.

fair enough  but in this case I would urge the Op to have a little patience trying to establish if there is anything that can be done

The OP said she has had Win 7 for 2 months. Glary also has a spyware removal tool. It certainly wouldn't do any harm in running it IMHO

thanks all, its a new PC - a DELL one that was advertised on here a few months back.
Sometimes it randomly re-boots too saying there was a problem. I'm really useless and wouldn't have a clue how to reinstall windows 7 or do anything with drivers etc. I will try that link suggested though and get some new viuse software, see if that helps.
thanks again xxx

if the pc randomly re-boots then contact dell, you can even do it online now :-), they can even check out your pc for you

Hope it helps you. If the computer is only 2 months old, I would contact dell if the programs don't work. I have had no problems at all with Windows 7 and I installed it myself on release day.

I agree. Windows 7 is probably the best installation I have ever done. Its simple uncluttered and just works, now finally I can say WOW (3 years too late)

So unless your Antivirus solution is bogging you down, it may be a hardware problem. Note if you Right Click the task bar and select Task Manager, see how busy the processor is etc... If its busy then you have a program/Antivirus problem. If its not busy its probably a hardware or even Firmware problem...it could be worth upgrading the Bios, and anything else that Dell has brought out in the last couple of months for your hardware, sometimes especially when a new OS comes out they have to make driver or Bios changes. Just noticed you said you were blond :-)
For these updates then "simply" contact Dell I have always found them very helpful once you get through all their noncence switch board. Tel number is 0844 338 1000 (quite expensive) but if you search on www.saynoto0870.com it comes up with a number of 01344 373727 which if you have free minutes to use up you can call for free :-).
or you could try this link, type in your service Tag number and Chat away :-)
support.euro.dell.com/sup…bsd

Hope all the HDUK users suggestion come in handy for you
