ahh, i think there is a button in excel to input date. Go to Options and properties and see if you can change it.

Hi todays date in excel is a formula =now() put this in it's own cell, then point the formula to it,

so cell a2 reads =now()

=IF(A1="p",a2) then format the cell to read the date,

date()

Unfortunately, now() will report the current time continuously - so if you open a document with that in it in two days time the now() function will report that time and date, not the original time and date. That might be a problem?

Ooops, Ignore!

How about keeping that if statement but then create a macro which searches for "PAID" and then changes it to that days date on exit???

A VB script like this may work,

"Function StaticDate()
' Returns the current date but does not change on recalculation
StaticDate = Now
End Funtion "

today() reports the date.

So if you change the formula to: =IF(a1=P, today(),0) OR as one of the previous posters says.

=if(a1=p,a1,0) then in a1 (or any cell) put =today()

today() reports the date.So if you change the formula to: =IF(a1=P, … today() reports the date.So if you change the formula to: =IF(a1=P, today(),0) OR as one of the previous posters says.=if(a1=p,a1,0) then in a1 (or any cell) put =today()

But ='today' recalculates everytime you open the workbook...

Oh yeah. thats slightly more complicated and they could sort if by writing some vba which would run upon the opening of the workbook to put the date in if it was paid.
