    teeth whitening

My local dentist is charging nearly £400 for zoom whitening (at home ). This consists of 6x Philips zoom take home syringes, custom mounds to fit my teeth and an explanation of how to use them. Does anyone else think this is excessive? I've found the syringes online for £60 for 3!

my dentist does them for £200 for 6 but this inc the mouth guard moulded(took a week to get this done) to your teeth as well.
But sins i know him out side of his work. this some how did not appear on my bill

also got 2 little tube of toothpaste. said some times they teen can be come sensitive and use the toothpaste as you would with the whitening kit.

bad thing is. I believe this kit made my teeth weaker and more brittle but that is just me. or all the fizzy drinks caught up on me

Sounds like they are ripping you off. I'd also seriously reconsider DIY, you can crack your teeth doing that. I'd suggest actually having it done in person.

Thats what I thought, I agreed to it thinking it was in clinic whitening... 400 seems awfully steep for what it is... have only had the moulds done so far so might try and cancel

200 is what I would call reasonable! God knows what the other £200 is for

    Profit.

You are paying for a cosmetic service. They can charge what they like.

i have read that teeth whitening damages your teeth, is this right?

Try a cheap kit off the internet first. They can be had for around a tenner. If you font get results you have not lost much.

Yes, you're using peroxide on your teeth. It creates little holes and cracks - if you get the mixture wrong you get nice big cracks.

It's not something to muck around with. A lot of dental cosmetics are dubious. Toothpaste which has an abrasive additive - that's the equivalent of sanding your teeth.

what?? done in person - can I not just send my teeth on their own? X)

Keep getting offered whitening and keep refusing because the damage it can cause. I also have a cap on a front tooth which was not a match for my teeth colour when it was fitted. Whitening doesn't work on caps and crowns etc so you may have to have new ones fitted.
If it's true that peroxide can cause cracks then trust me you don't want that agony. That's how my 6 odd hours of root canal started. Rather have my kids continue to take the mick than walk round looking like I've got false teeth already.
People look odd with brilliant white teeth and orange fake tan skin comes next, no thanks.

Had it done under supervision of a private dentist, my teeth used to be yellow. I paid £400 and was also given the syringes, custom mounds, etc. Went back half way through treatment for more checks etc to ensure everything was going well. It was 5 years ago and people still comment how good and clean my teeth are. A couple of weeks ago I received a complement. Best money I've ever invested. I won't never buy anything online.
