Tesco Double the difference pretty much £100 free tesco vouchers and booze (new £20 limit max per voucher). - hurry!

Tesco are offering double the difference on a shop with Asda, with £100 max per month & a new £20 limit max per voucher.

Current examples can be found in the MSE thread here forums.moneysavingexpert.com/sho…ibu

& the pricechecker spreadsheet is here
    spreadsheets.google.com/pub…tml

it is a gamble as tesco won't argue the toss and they are wrong in a lot of cases however you can literally get hundreds of quids of shopping for a few quid outlay if you are quick and clever.

Tesco are offering to beat Asda's prices by double the difference. The above mentioned items are far cheaper at asda, for example the chardonnay is £5 vs £10.49 in tesco so for every bottle you buy, they refund you £10.98 in tesco vouchers - a profit, plus the wine! So if you hit the £100 limit by the example above you get all that booze, and £100 in tesco vouchers for your next shop or two.

(ignore the middle price as thats sainsburies and they are only doing it with Asda)

be careful if its done wrong you end up with lots of overpriced rubbish

You have to wait a few months to get your clubcard vouchers though right? They only dispense them once every few months.

    Original Poster

Or alternatively you just take it back and ask for a refund!

You should be careful though and only buy it if it is something that you do want and that shows up on both the asda website and on the tesco price checker as a lot of them show up as Not Found.

Easy for me as I will drink chardonnay and love rum!

    Original Poster

No, you get the voucher emailed to you.

Good deal if you were going to buy that amount of those particular products, I suppose???

    Original Poster

Even if you aren't it's a good deal. I'm sure you could find someone to buy those products off you if you didn't want them yourself. The Chardonnay is essentially free as you get more back than you pay, and £11.78 back for each bottle of appletons is brilliant - essentially 6 quid a bottle if you want to keep it, or shift it to someone for a tenner.

Your link doesn't work, where is the literature for this offer? I would have to consult the terms and conditions first before taking the plunge.

    all details in there.

    Full MSE Article:

Supermarket giant Tesco is launching a £200 million price war with rival Asda.

The group lowered prices on more than 1,000 items from today to up the ante against its resurgent competitor.

It is promising to pay shoppers double the difference on products found cheaper at Asda.

How does the price guarantee work?

Tesco will pay the money back if a basket of shopping you buy would have been cheaper at Asda. If Asda is £1 cheaper you will get £2 back in Tesco vouchers which can be used in-store or online.

This applies to items bought either in-store or at online at Tesco.

This is the supermarket's attempt to fight back against a similar Asda price guarantee, which launched in January.

The Tesco guarantee is only against Asda items, not those at other supermarkets such as Morrisons and Sainsbury's.

    Which products are included?

The price drop will cover a range of typical grocery items such as fruit and veg, meat, medicine and cleaning products.

For example, Persil Powder Bio 4.25kg previously cost £12.26, but it has been reduced to £9.00.

The amount of the price drop depends on the item and can be anything from a few pence to pounds. Tesco's Medium Sliced White Bread (800g), for example, only has 5p knocked off.

    What's the catch?

The price guarantee is only available on comparable grocery items that are either exactly the same or of a similar quality.

They musn't differ by more than 10% in size, weight and volume. Other items cannot be used in the price comparison.

In addition, items bought at Tesco Express, Tesco petrol station and Tesco Homeplus stores are excluded from any comparison.

How do you get money back?

Follow this step-by-step process to see if you qualify:

Customers must save their Tesco receipt.
Visit Tesco Pricecheck website and click on 'check my shopping'.
Enter the range of numbers at the bottom of the receipt (see Tesco's explanation of the numbers) and your email address. If it was an online purchase, also enter your postcode.
Claims must be made within 28 days of purchase or within 28 days of delivery, if bought online.
Tesco will reply with an email within 36 hours with a link to the comparison results. Clicking on this link shows whether or not the shop was cheaper than Asda.
If Tesco was more expensive, it will give a voucher by email for double the difference.
There is a maximum £100 per month that Tesco will issue in vouchers.
How do I use my voucher?

You must print the voucher out if using it in a store or quote the code if used online.
To use it, you must have the original receipt with you.
Vouchers cannot be used on the lottery, fuel, tobacco, infant formula, Tesco cafés, Tesco pharmacies, gift cards and mobile phone top ups.

posted a link but its awaiting moderation. It's all on MSE if you have a look there, its very popular and was surprised it wasnt on here.

I took a look on MSE, it does seem like an amazing offer. Well done for bringing it to HUKD! I bet it gets super hot. I think remember seeing something in the news about the offer some weeks ago. I can't help thinking Tesco wanted to make the headlines with this double the difference price pledge but they didn't want many people taking them up on it. It isn't like it's obvious the offer is running unless you know about it, the offer has been running for weeks now. The Tesco groceries homepage mentions nothing about it apart from a tiny little title saying "Price Checks" in the "More from Grocery" section. Then when you click Price Checks it takes you to a page which gives you two options. It doesn't mention anything about the double the difference against Asda pledge they have made. Then if you click search by product, again the page it takes you to makes no mention of the offer.

    Original Poster

While its going to get them a lot more business, its going to cost them a pretty penny in the vouchers they will be dishing out after this weekend!

Unfortunately i dont think this will get superhot as its been moved to Misc so people cant vote on it any more, either way though good to get the information out there & save people a few quid!

Yeah you're right, it will cost them a lot, well spotted!

price check was mentioned last week as below,

care though though, is as big a con as the asda promise, as it compares the total shop not just on the single items so as mentioned earlier,

    buyer beware
but if you win good luck!

the difference being that link shows you how to get some cornflakes for 2p; with the above info you can get a load of booze for effectively £20 and then sell the booze for profit if you don't want it.

agree to beware but as long as you check what you want to buy in advance you are golden (check vs asda website, and tesco's own price on their price checker)

Check out the thread on MSE - people are posting things that have matched sucessfully etc so its a good place to start.

be wary about doing a 'normal' shop at the same time - theyll only refund the difference on whats cheaper elsewhere so getting a few tesco deals will dent your cash back.

Baileys Irish Cream Liqueur £10 for 1Litre Bottle at ASDA £16.47 @ Tesco = £3.53 a bottle once you get your voucher back.

    Also check Pimm no1 £10 for 70c on asda site and £13.97 = £6.03

All these are only going to work if the Tesco price checker site updates before the asda offer ends.

i think you have a drinking problem ....

    yummy appletons rum

if anyone has ordered this the appleton rum is less than the price checker. its not £17.xx its scanning at £12.77 so if you ordered 4 bottles plus the 5 bottles of wine, wine still scans at £10.49
( 5x double the diffrence) plus (0.77p) double the diffrence x 4. on the rum. not the saving i was after but kept it anyway.
so paid about £11.70 a bottle for the rum. but got the wine free. (will order from instore next time as price checker isnt up to date surely it should be updated daily.) but i guess thats where they make there money.

    Original Poster

was that yesterday or today? Rum definitely scanned at 17 quid yesterday.

ordered yesterday but scanned today at 8am. order came 10am. so looks like they fixed the price either way im still keeping it got the wine free and the rum cheaper. but next time will order instore.

so basically buy that wine and rum from Asda, get double back from Tescos, and use that to shop at Tesco's each month..

Initially you'd think so however Tesco dont use their prices so if its wrong you have no recourse - always go by whats on tesco's own price checker for Tesco's prices, and asda website for theres.

got my email - shop would have been 54.99 cheaper at Asda and voucher enclosed for double the difference. supposed to be capped at £100 but voucher is for £109.98!
