Tescos and their coupon policy have i done wrong???

my local tescos accept all sorts of coupons, they now have or did last week a banner outside saying they accept sainsburys coupons as our local sainsburys do dish out a lot of coupons, anyhows ive used the sainsburys coupons in there lots of times before and alls been ok.

A friend of mine wasnt going to use their sainsburys coupons in time so gave them to me,lad took one earlier when he went and got a few bits at tesco, scanned the coupon £2 but the woman at the self serves wouldnt authorise it,he then got stopped by a security guard telling him he had attempted to commit fraud (for the sake of a £2 coupon they didnt accept?!) as it didnt have his name on blah blah and that they would ring sainsburys and find out exactly who the named person was, understandably he came home a bit miffed, ive used my dads clubcard coupons and my friends sainsbury vouchers in there before and all has been fine, theyve certainly worried him into a frenzy that he has attempted to commit fraud but surely tescos shouldnt be accepting sainsburys coupons at all as theyre not even for their store??

I'm a little confused on this one!

its in the t&c, i think they are in their rights to refuse if used by someone other then the one who's name is on the coupon

    cheers

but sainsburys name was on the coupon too lol

dont think he will be shopping in tescos again think he got a bit of an ear bashing about it

yeah they do it , see it more like a price promise though ! sounds like a real jobsworth ! id phone customer services or speak to manager !

also he could have been at the store on behalf of your friend ! lol

believe it or not my sis uses farmfood vouchers in tesco all the time and to top it off her husband works for tesco so shed have the brass neck handing over the 10% staff discount card aswell !

he could of been at the store on behalf of my friend yes, somehow i dont think they will go to all the bother of ringing sainsburys to find out who my friend is names on the coupon (which they took away and kept)

The security guard can't touch you, just walk out in future.

stores will accept condional spend ( save x wys XX)coupons if the other supermarket is nearby.
Like mine will take farmfoods and morrisons but not sainsbury

Not necessarily good advice. attempted fraud is a criminal offence so the guard is probably within his rights to stop someone he thinks has committed an offence.

Hope you're not a lawyer! :whistling:

Attempted fraud, that's a good one.

    Hope you're not serious :whistling:.

i think they were more concerned with the "commiting fraud" line as the coupon had my friends name on it

maybe they thought they were sainsbury's staff discount?

the coupons were part of a mass mailing by sainsburys, all nectar card holders got posted them so tescos would of seen a fair few of them lately

I suggest you read the original post? It was Tesco who claimed that he had attempted to commit fraud, not my idea!

I am merely suggesting that walking away after being challenged when you might (even inadvertantly) have committed an offence is not good advice.

Tesco and their security where you are sound like an absolute joke.
I'd have told the security guard to get out my way or call the police sounds like he was trying to justify his role within the supermarket.

thing is ive used coupons a fair few times there now, sainsburys asdas etc they have the banners outside stating they accept other supermarkets coupons so i use them, maybe they stopped my lad cos he was a teenager as theyve never said anything to me about names on the coupons or anything, maybe my lad just looked dodgy lol

In this instance the security guard is clearly acting like a muppet (no offence to our resident Muppet), I seriously doubt that they would have pursued the matter had the lad in question simply walked off.

I also doubt that they would have confronted an adult in the first place.

If you've actually commited an offence by all means run away :).

I work at tesco and personally i don't look at the name as long as u have spent the minimum amount required and it's in date then my tesco takes them. Your lad probably got served by a jobsworth. If it had a blokes name on the voucher how are they to know weather their his or not. The only thing i can think of is that it was a lad with the voucher but the voucher had a female name on it so the cashier got a bit jobsworthy.

no it was a mans name on the voucher which is why i cant get my head around them being so bothered about it
