    Thank you letters

Now that Christmas is over, I need to get my kids writing their thank you cards.
I hate making them do this, they hate it, but I feel that people expect them.
Do your kids write them? How do you handle it?
Any clever suggestions and easy ideas will be gratefully recieved.
    thx

I used to get mine to make a quick phone call

get them to make the cards first, you dont have to make a 'card' get them to draw a personalised thankyou picture

I think it's good manners to send thank you notes/cards

It's also really nice to receive a thank you card

My children are only very young - 2 years and 8 months but cards will be going out very soon. This year I have made some photocards at Snapfish and will write a message on the back. For my daughters recent birthday we bought some cheap paper thankyou notes and she put a hand print on them all. When my son was born we put his footprint on the thankyou cards

Get them to do one then scan it onto cards, hey presto

I think it is really important to get kids to write thankyou notes - someone has bothered to go out and buy them a pressie I think it's the least they can do. My little boy started school in september and so is only just learning to write. I got him to write a short letter (me telling him what letters to put etc) saying thanks for the pressie, it was perfect. Then I photo copied it 10 times - a cheat I know but he is 5 and it took him ages just to write the one. lol

I went out last week to buy Christmassy thankyou cards nd couldn't find ANY, not even ONE with a christmas tree on or something!! I ended up printing them off the computer and they look fab

I just make my daughter send texts to say thanks, or a quick call.

does that make me kerry katona?

i printed off a picture of my two in front of the tree or on Christmas Eve onto some card and folded it in half to make cards. I wrote some and they signed their names (dotty writing for the 3 year old !). For other family members my 8 year old wrote them himself instead of me, but on both of their behalves. We used the one Christmas sweet for each letter !

My 3 year old was happy to oblige with colourings-i printed some disney princess templates off to colour, and some she just drew-i did this over a few days.

    Good luck !

They are appreciated though-and i agree that it is polite to send them when people have taken the time to buy gifts.

I don't know if it is right to get them to write notes, it needs to come from the heart and although you are teaching them manners it might be better to either call, email or visit and just say a quick thank you. I squirm when I receive thank you cards as I feel for the kids that have to write them..............
p.s. I've bought up a lot of kids and they didn't have to write them (or kiss the aunties), and they all grew up to be nice, polite people who know what is right. I'm not knocking those who decide to do this, but as with religion we all have different views/ways and I feel it is a bit too contrived.

I have a cupboard full of my childrens artwork- they are 7- and I get them to sign them and I write a quick Thankyou, and send them off. ( usually with an explanation of what the picture is !LOL)

My kids had Santa deliver all the presents so why would she write to other people??
She now knows the truth and really doesn't want to do it, so I've given her the pc to play on and make picures then print them out with a little message for her. She always says thank you when she see's the person who gave the gift and gives them a hug, better than a letter any day in my eyes!

My kids get pressies from Santa (us) and then presents from friends and family, Y should Santa get all the credit for what others have spent time doing:?

we write thank you letters, i did as a child and still do and now my little one does as well

i will write the letter, or he will do a pic and write his name etc, its nice and i thnk important to make sure he says thank you and appriciates the gifts

alot of kids don't say thank you and when you go to the effort of buying gifts then i think they should say thank you

this can be by letter, text, e mail etc, but do think its nice to do it xx

does anyone here NOT get their kids to write thank you cads. Although I get my kids to write them, we never recieve then back off people.

This was the point of my thread. Grandparents, Aunties, neighbours ALL expect thank yous, but I don't get thank you notes from them. It makes me furious, THEY are not setting a good example to my kids!!!!!!
