The benefit of the credit crunch

Has anyone else noticed that there are only a fraction of the junk mail credit offers arriving on the hall floor now?

Good point - these charity collection bag things.

However, when you look at many of these - they are not actually charities - and are just companies that are offering to help a charity - or I noticed one was "clothes for Skintland" - where it seemed they shipped the clothing to "Skintland" and sold them.

WHen you get these - check that they actually are charities when you read the small print.

Indeed, only the odd one is the actual charity, all the rest are clothing companies which only give a certain amount of money to the charity.

I always take mine directly to the charity shop,i never put them in those bags.

I don't get junk mail either,as i signed up with RM not to get it!

does it make me a bad person that I use those bags when I run out of binliners?

Brilliant idea - they annoyed me and I binned them - but that makes far more sense. Have some rep.

I ALWAYS use them as bin liners, they're a great size and especially fab when they've got a handle on them, I get quite excited when I find one of these (yes, quite sad!) I never have any clothes to put in them for the charity shop because charity begins at home and it all goes on ebay!!

Note that even if it is affiliated to a proper charity, often its still part of a 'scam' Basically its run by Rag mills, they approach charity asking if they can use their name on the bags, in return the charity gets between 7-11p a kg of clothes, none of it gets to see a charity shop. Its the ultimate in recycling, market traders and antique clothes dealers buy the good stuff, what's still wearable is shipped usually to Africa to be sold, what's left is ground up and dyed to make industrial wipers and stuffing's for car seats, mattresses etc.
