The Capital Of UK is:

I'm trying to prove a point to my class, they don't think that UK has a capital, i've searched my answer and I have been proved right. But they still don't belive me. I don't want to put on what I thought it was because it might influence your decision. I MEAN THE CITY CAPITAL, NOT THE CAPITAL LETTER!

Please post below on what you think the capital is, or if it has one at all.

Your right a capitol is usually where the seat of government resides, but we're still a monarchy so technically I think it is where the monarch resides, with is still London so my point's moot. :giggle:

Capital letters!

Bit obvious that the capital is London. Education isn't wot it used to be.

Capital - A town or city that is the official seat of government in a political entity, such as a state or nation.

So London, as well as being the capital of England, is also the capital of the United Kingdom.

I saw a show the other week where they were aksing Yanks capital cities of pretty obvious countries, trying to make a point that they live in their own little bubble, it was just after Barrack took over and they were saying how much the UK (Labour) loves the US and Barrack really couldn't give a toss.

Anyway, the point is that many of them asked had no idea what the capital of England was. Take out the fact that GB is 4 nations, they still didn't know let alone asking them the UK.

Shame on them! (not all, just a lot)

I can tell you now they are not. They thought that it didn't have a capital because it's more than one country, I asked teachers, they still didn't belive me, some others in my class thought it was London aswell ,and if they were winding me up, i think they would of told me by now.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain (Eng,Scot,Wal) and Northern Ireland. By Ireland you mean the north yes?

Well, the nation state is the U.K. comprising Great Britain (Eng,Sco,Wal) and NI all of which are regions of the country and not countries in themselves although each (except England which does not have its own Government) has its own capital. London is the capital of the UK although this is not actually officially written down anywhere funnily enough. Rather like our constitution I suppose.

She will love you for posting that:-D

I would argue that there is no capital as the UK is four seperate countries.

What's the capital of Europe??

I hate to state wiki since it is not a reference source, but for your reading:

StatusCity of LondonWithin London, both the City of London and the City … StatusCity of LondonWithin London, both the City of London and the City of Westminster have City status and both the City of London and the remainder of Greater London are the ceremonial counties.[64] The current area of Greater London was historically part of the counties of Middlesex, Kent, Surrey, Essex and Hertfordshire.[65] Unlike most capital cities, London's status as the capital of the UK has never been granted or confirmed officially — by statute or in written form. Its position as the capital has formed through constitutional convention, making its position as de facto capital a part of the UK's unwritten constitution. The capital of England was moved to London from Winchester as the Palace of Westminster developed in the 12th and 13th centuries to become the permanent location of the royal court, and thus the political capital of the nation.[66] According to the Collins English Dictionary definition[67] of 'the seat of government,' London is not the capital of England, as England does not have its own government. However according to the Oxford English Reference dictionary definition[68] of 'the most important town...' and many other authorities,[69][70]London is the capital of England.

I suggest you look into the reference sources fromt here.
