    The future of movies

Ok so ive got a hell of a lot of dvds and like 40 hd dvds - but although high def is the way i think microsoft were right saying that the future is downloadable films and ive found the first inklings of this being apparant

I saw it when looking through my wish list on amazon
I Am Legend (Special Edition, including Digital Copy) dvd

Now i was intrigued - whats a digital copy
    so i read down farther

Note: This version also comes as a Digital Copy: Digital Copy (DC) aims to bridge the gap between the physical and digital worlds that viewers interact with. Until DC there has been no way to store your movies in a digital format. DC is the first step toward an easier and faster experience than downloading direct from the internet. - Insert the disc into your computer Enter the authentication code Your portable file is downloaded from the disc to your computer

So im guessing this will be included more and more into films - starting with this and a similar thing with the blu ray in that they will be coming with a downgraded version of the film that allows you to copy it to the psp with ease on the ps3

    Take a look
    the future is coming

    Read up on it

yeah but in the UK most peoples internet couldnt cope... especially with download caps.

we need to get off the copper and onto the optical before you need to worry about throwing those dvds away...

    other countries this is viable.

yep but that was like 5 years ago -- a pain in the **** it was but broadband is too slow for me atm

Whats the Size and Quality like of these Digital Copies??

There are actually two digital copies on the disk:
    1) A 320x166 widescreen version for PlaysForSure devices and Zune playback.
    2) A 3.6Mb 720x306 widescreen version for PC Playback

Obviously 3.6Mb cant be right, but if it means 3.6Gb then its a joke, and wont touch piracy still.
Pirate movies are often 700Mb (0.7Gb).
I woulnt put 3.6Gb files on my Hard Drive unless they were HD which this isnt.

pirate films are put at 700 so people can store them on a cd, they are lower quality than a dvd, but if you make a dvd quality video file it can be around 4gb, so 3.6 sounds about right.

is this like buying a torrent file or something? i don't like it...i'd rather have a dvd. if people want the film on their computer, why not just upload the dvd...?

some good pirate copies can be on a vcd upto 750mb and be amazing quality,it all depends on the source and encoding mate.i have had many a great vcd actual dvd quality so don't dis the 700mb vcds as they are some of the best

    Beat me to it lol

Some pirate ones can be amazing quality, and at 700Mb'ish its a lot easier on your Hard Drive than putting 3.6Gb video files on them. HD Movies can be down to 4-4.5Gb so its a joke having the DC copies so big when the specs arent great.

And mind, lots of people have HD TV's now, which connected to a TV is why they will want a Digital Copy.

"720x306 widescreen version for PC Playback"

Thats not far off Pirate Resolutions, which are a fraction of the size.
Both will need to stretch out on most folks TV's. Mines is at 1360x768 ie 720p.
Even on that, they will look about the same on most folks TV's.
But then theres people that download all the HD content that the Americans get and upload, while we have zilch over here.
