    looking good so far

    Cheers!

I watched the first 20 minutes or so before the kids got bored and demanded the TV back. It's Top Gear with a new name and a lot more money being thrown at it.

If you liked Top Gear then you'll like this, if you didn't then you won't

    My sentiments exactly.

    James may with an A.K?

Won't watch anything that contains that bottom feeder Clarkson

I had to turn the dynamic contrast off due to the white teeth of the audience. All I could see was the girl behind Clarkson with her super bright set of gnashers. Other than that it was ok especially the remark about the horse!

The Kings are back on the motoring Throne!!!! BBC, THIS is how you make a car show!!!!

Even the Guardian gave a glowing review, topped off with "the Beeb can go eat dust". It was awesome and I can't wait to watch the next one next Friday.

More of the same which is fine. Still not sure where the budget has gone, £4m an episode seems like a lot of money for slick editing, high contrast and vignette effects.

I'd imagine on their salaries, the car 'hire' and having to check an extra bag or two for that tent in oversized luggage X)

The intro for the 1st episode wouldn't have been cheap unless all those cars in the desert scene were not paid, as were the planes, the band etc.
Part of the cost per episode is also towards paying for the infrastructure such as the new track and all the research and travelling.

The cost of having Gordon Ramsay on set 24/7 to cook a steak would be high and no way Clarkson would try and stick one on him.

Do you think Amazon will stick with it long-term? It's a carbon copy of Top Gear but costs a fortune to make. I dare say legitimate viewing figures are shocking compared to earlier seasons of Top Gear.

Short-term it's a genius move by Amazon (A big name programme helping to attract Prime subscribers and other original content), but I wonder whether the novelty will wear off and they decide to stop bankrolling it after 2-3 series.

Good point on infrastructure, but the festival scene was all filmed at Burning Man. I suspect the act was already booked for the performance and keen for the publicity. After the Mad Max 'we're back' intro it settled back into normality.

My impression is that they have committed to 3 seasons but that could easily be wrong on my part.
I’m not sure how they will monetize this but then again that rarely seems to worry Amazon.
Top Gear was a massive success worldwide but I’m not clear what percentage of those territories Amazon actually reach with their video service so maybe Netflix was a better fit in that sense.
But seemingly Amazon want it as an expensive promotional tool and it may well succeed but looking at how old these guys look I’d say they have 3 years left maybe.
The idea of May racing Clarkson in Zimmer frames with KERS doesn’t appeal at my age.

There's some good stuff on Amazon Video such as Halt and Catch Fire which is about the early days of the PC industry; well at least that is season 1 and I'm only just starting series 2 and there's also a 3rd series:

Loved it. GT is TG hidden in plain sight. The glaring tongue in cheek differences to keep the BBC lawyers at bay manage to make it even more like Top Gear. Perfectly timed for the new post-truth Trumpest, Brexitist age in which middle-aged men are finally allowed to have opinions again. No longer are Clarkson, May and Hammond held back by the BBC as some sort of cringey David Brent/Alan Partridge-a-likes. They soar like the true eagles of entertainment that they are. 6 stars out of 5.

Hmm, that's almost making me feel like I owe it to my Da to invite him over, so that he can watch it.

It was ok. Not as many cars as I would like to have seen, and the odd moment of pointless stupidity, like the celebrity brain thing. Not bad though.

Don't worry, it stays good. Probably the best show on TV at the minute. TransParent is really solid too.

    Richard Hammond? Fat?

I enjoyed it. back to normality with the boys.

Watched a bit of the 2nd episode and I think they are jumping the shark or at the very least hopping over a porpoise.

This latest episode was awful and I don't say that lightly..

Vulcan test drive was good, but soon as they chucked the 'American' in it waffling the entire time (I want to hear and see the car not some fake race driver).

And the Special Forces piece was so bad. So bad.

I agree, was nowhere near as good as the first one, lets hope the next one is more like the first.

I like it but very American American?..I'm not keen on the swearing either, just through me a bit..which is strange as I swear alot myself, just didn't fit??

The first episode of Top Gear with Chris Evans was appalling but a month later I went back and looked at the next one on iPlayer and it got a lot better as the series went on.
So it is dangerous to jump to conclusions based on one episode so I was wondering how GT would progress as whilst I mainly enjoyed the 1st episode there were some warning signs.
The American is tedious enough already to skip that part.
The way they insulted South African politicians/culture I thought was OTT.
In small doses it can be seen as school boy humour but in large doses it just seemed insensitive and crass.
The Special Forces film was way too long and also OTT.
They seem to be regressing and becoming even more juvenile to the point where the tone seems off.
Maybe they needed the BBC to keep them in check!
I did like the line that Hammond said on the wing with the knife; let's dance.
