Well that's nice and racist of you

Why does it take our council 3 months to fix a blown bulb in a street light?

they could sure teach us a thing or two..

that's good! took them 2 years to do 1 on my street, they put a new lamppost up and turned the power on 2 years later, and that's no joke..

    wow, thats fantastic!

    mr.potato_head

I would't say racist, but definately hard working and efficient. Credit to them where due!

And that's a nice and ridiculous statement by you.

It's amazing how the Japanese can only take 3 months to clear their towns after the disaster, but after Katrina in 'The greatest country in the world' people are still clearing up, or they were not long ago...

I'm sure there's some meaning to that comment. Pity it's only you that knows what it is.

So are you suggesting that generalising a nation or a race is ok?

I don't think you know what you're saying. Soon after the tsunami several threads appeared here commenting on how much dignity the Japanese people were displaying in the face of adversity. So was that racist, given that people were generalising?
As far as I'm concerned, a racist comment would be derogatory. Astonmarts comment was complimentary to the Japanese. According to your statement, any comment which generalised would be racist, and that's plainly wrong.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Not all Japanes people are dignified. Do you not think undignified Japanese people may be offended by that?

Subjective. I wouldn't see efficiency as a positive trait.

My boyfriend doesn't like fish... he's English.... associating fish and chips with England doesn't offend him.

I get it now. You're teasing me.
“How dare you call me dignified"?

"Racism is the belief that there are inherent differences in people's traits and capacities that are entirely due to their race, however defined, and that, as a consequence, justify the different treatment of those people, both socially and legally."

Racism doesn't have to be negative.

almost as impressive as their gaming skills

This thread had led me to believe that people are stupid. I'm going to continue believing the whole world isn't going to hell though and carry on a with a typically British stiff upper lip. Oh wait hang on.

Possibly not (although the term racism is generally, if not universally considered to be a negative trait) but old spud-head was inferring that Astonmarts comment was racism of the offensive type, otherwise why would he suggest that some would be offended by being called dignified in order to make his point?

I absolutely agree with you, was just throwing a spanner in the works to be objective.
