The Pakistan floods - why aren't we donating more?

    Banned
I'm not saying we should or guilt-tripping people. I'm just wondering why it is that we (as private citizens) have donated less money to this disaster than we did the tsunami or the Haiti tragedy.

What is it about Pakistan or floods that means we aren't giving them as much as we apparently have done before?

Because our national debt is £900 billion?

    Asking for trouble....

Perhaps if they spent more money on their own countries infrastructure rather than Spending it supporting terrorism and letting their president swan around the world then people would be more sympathetic.

    Good night.

Well their PM didnt seem to care while he was off on a Jolly, so why should anyone else care?

Besides, the country is a hotbed for terrorists, so I'd imagine people are wary about where their donations end up. Buying food for victims of a tragedy is one thing, but I expect if it was buying RPGs, Mines or AKs they'd think twice... and have.

I'm sure the debt was there in the other tragedies

Money isn't just for food and you don't fast all month.
Also they're are not all terrorists.
I'm also interested in the question, as I was thinking about it too, out of curiosity just seems to be less attention.

In the first 10 days after the earthquake in Haiti, international organisations raised $742 million for the victims; this time, they received less than one 16th of that sum. In the first week after the tsunami hit South Asia in 2004, the British public alone donated £100 million. The amount we have given so far to alleviate the suffering in Pakistan? Less than £10 million.

maybe because the british public don't believe in degrees any more so they have rubbish jobs and no disposable income? plus christmas is rather close so you have to buy all those xboxes for the kids since they have asbos and curfews and cant go out and be normal citizens

When seeing the PM of said country going on a jolly, whilst all that was going on, doesn't help really

    You're right it's the PM's fault.
    Someone to blame.

Thats a bit harsh. You should be ashamed of yourself. I know a few Pakistani's who are nice people, though I also know a couple that are complete idiots with chips on their shoulders. But you shouldn't type cast. It's not a nice thing to do.

It's not such an "in your face" disaster, earthquakes & tsunamis sound more dramatic so we are more sympathetic towards them, "a flood" just doesn't sound so bad.

Problem is is that most people will have the Terrorism image shoved down their throat through the media, and it makes people less sympathetic.
True we shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush, but most people are sheep and follow what they are told to follow, and at the moment we are told that people from that area are terrorists so most people will go with that.
Its the more intelligent people that understand the situation fully, but unfortunately they are few and far between.

    this but

"The U.S. Defense Department failed to properly account for almost $9 billion of Iraq reconstruction funds, which is 96 percent of the money it received from 2004 to 2007, according to a report released July 27 by the U.S. Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction."

What hope has a charity got at making sure the money doesn't end up in the wrong hands?

I donated £15 to the Tsunami and £15 to Haiti earth quake...if they beg a bit harder I may donate another £15 to Pakistan.
