The people of Wootton Bassett - a tribute to humanity

    Mod & Ed
My neighbours son is off to Wootton Bassett today, to see his friend being repatriated after losing his life in the conflict.
I am so proud of the townspeople of Wootton Bassett, the way that they close the town, look after the grieving relatives and greet with true dignity the returning men, whether they are pro/anti the conflict they turn out time and time again to show their support for the armed forces, humanity at it's best.

Please do not turn this into a pro/anti war, pro/anti British thread, this is not that type of thread.

    RIP

Not so I can show ignorance here, but why is Wootton Bassett the place were these brave soldiers come back to?

They usually fly them into RAF Lyneham and Wootton Bassett is the nearest town to that base, according to my dad who was based there some 50 years ago, they repatriated the troops there even then:thumbsup:

    Ahhh, now I understand.
Seeing the pictures of the troops killed in action has really effected me this time around (with the Afghan war). When you I used to hear of these soldiers dying in action, they were nothing more than numbers (to be frank), but to see the photo, to understand the family connections, to know they are often young fathers (and mothers) who have joined our armed forces for a wide array of reasons, it all seems such a waste.

To then see Gordon Brown et al, swanning around with grins on their faces makes me mad as hell!

    Rant over!

That it's nice to see people do a decent thing whatever their personal beliefs:thumbsup:

What annoys me is the reading out of these Service Personnel's names during prime ministers questions in the house of commons on wednesdays. These politicians arent fit to speak the names of the men and women who have laid down their lives for their country.

    How about nothing ?

The respect the town gives is amazing and I think in many ways it represents how many of us would like to thank and give respect to those who gave their lives.....

    Respect to them all
