My ds aged 3yrs LOVES raw potato - my friend nearly had a fit when she saw me give him a piece when I was making homemade chips saying you shouldnt ever eat it raw. My nan used to give us a piece when she was making chips when we were little and never did us any harm (dont think lol) but its made me think twice about giving him a piece now.

Was there any truth in what she was saying?

    cheesy mash all the way

    oh and sweedy mash

mmmm dont forget mash with stuffing mixed in on top of a shepherds pie

cripes nearly forgot mash with sausages and onion gravy *drool*

I normally do keep a load in a couple of sacks - but I have a massive garden and last year couldnt believe the amount I had!

I just live in my garden in the summer - always out doing something - and would pull up some potatoes and look out for the neighbours who are enjoying the evening sun with some wine - a nice exchange!!

Logically I'm thinking she was just talking rubbish - but her reaction was so severe, like I had handed him the knife and not a piece of raw potato, that it has made me wonder!

Ds loves all his fruit and veg and prefers most of the raw!

Load of rubbish, except when you give them the green bits full of alkaloids. But who would do that???:w00t:

Yes. I was always given raw potatoes, carrots, cabbage, mushrooms, anything veg really = no problem. I actually still pefer most of them raw and gave them to my own kids. We are all still alive.

Friends - what do they know.

I was thinking just the other night that we should have a 2010 gardening thread; they have been a bit 'hit and miss' over the past couple of years. I was thinking of going for 'Show Us Your Garden' but that might put off the the allotment and veggie guys.

thats a brilliant idea. I actually grew potatoes for christmas time - was a bit nervous if they would turn out okay - but they were absolutely gorgeous. Followed tons of advice from the Beechgrove Garden website - god I sound like an old fart !!!!

A father potato says to his 3 daughters "I'm getting old and I want to see you all settle down before I die go out and find yourselves a good husband and come back to show me". Weeks later Daughter 1 comes back and says "Hi dad, heres my new husband, hes a King Edward" Her father approves and gives them a plot of land to start a family. Daughter 2 comes home and says "Hi dad, heres my new husband, hes a Royal Jersey" Her father approves and gives them a plot of land too to start a family. Daughter 3 comes home and says "Hi dad, heres my new husband, hes a Gary Lineker" Her father shouts in a fit of rage "GARY LINEKER?!?!? GARY LINEKER?!?! I WON'T LET YOU GET MARRIED TO A COMMON TATER!"

    badum tish!

Veggies I don't grow that much now-a-days ( carrots are better from the shops!) but tomatoes are the big one for me - so,so different from not just the supermarket but the market as well. My first seedlings are in the greenhouse duing the day and on my desk at night. One slip and they are goners!!
I grow things mainly in pots - so limited quantitites.
    Tomatoes are a MUST imho.

Wow, you do grow a lot of stuff. Unfortunately we don't have anywhere to grow stuff as our back garden kept getting soo water logged, we had fake grass put in about 5 years ago, it has been great for the kids cos its now usable all year round but I do miss being able to grow stuff. I do have lots of pots with flowers though and we have a mulberry tree (in a pot) which gives lots of fruit each year

Kazzy - you can grow lovely potatoes in pots or even............in those big Ikea blue bags!!!

Last year I chucked a couple of potatoes that were left over into an Ikea bag and got lots of nice potatoes a few months later.

Anyway Chesso is going to start a proper thread on all of this which will be great!
