the words of Barnardos chief - do you agree?

Baby P could have become "feral, a parasite, a yob" if he had survived into his teens, the chief executive of children's charity Barnardo's has said.

Martin Narey said Baby P might have been a criminal by the age of 13 due to his emotional and physical deprivation.

I agree...I get exactly what hes saying and I agree

it's true, I work with children who have been abused and you see the light is dim behind their eyes when they first come to sessions

can imagine what would happen if they didn't come to the centre.......no hope and all that hate

Reading about the way he was treated then he probably wouldn't of known any different.

if the social services - doctors who are taking salaries of £50000 - £100,000 were doing their jobs to a standard of actually deserving the pay they get - this would not have happened

the baby would have gone to adoptive or foster parents hopefully to have been given the chance to make something of his life

so does being poor actually come into it

im sure its true in most cases but surely the point is they should have been stopped???

Makes me so mad that they can be highlighted as having a child at risk and nothing is done...I have dealt with sovial services and the kids who are in the net are fine (foster kids who get regular check-ups to make sure they see a dentist etc )
Kids who are with their parents are just left...and i have witnessed it so many time(i lived in a really bad area years ago) I even reported someone whose baby couldnt walk age 2half and had delays with everything as he was in his cot all day alone...in a stinking bedroom-nothing was done and the mother went on to have 5 children all treated the same. Makes me mad- Rant over sorry!!

yes agrre with you again hon

even more so when they get sent away to private schools for the term - come home for a couple of days

wheres the love and cuddles there

Lack of Social Workers, lack of teachers, lack of police, lack of nurses and the beration they receive its no wonder no-one wants to do these lines of work. Humans still make mistakes and system rules also hinder the issues that led to this tragic situation, I would never claim anyone should be infallible.

I do agree with Banardos they are actually only citing Baby P as an example, this school of thought is not new.

my sisters next door neighbour used to beg bread in the morning for her baby-and milk for his bottles....she could afford her drugs parties though. Took ages before she was raided and her child was taken. He must have been scarred poor love.

If you report them nothing is done. Social services are carp. I childminded fostered kids for them and they really are(in our area anyway) abismal.

They want the job-they just dont have the dedication and spirit required. I wish i had trained as a social worker:oops:

On a positive side my health visitor is fantastic (one of the few it seems)..

Yeah, but also the lack of staff in these areas also means that cases/work loads don't get dealt with and who can be blamed for the lack of staff in a professional that gets so much flak.

yep lets be honest its society isnt it? its our responsibility-and i for one will never ignore any child again i fear in danger. If everyone cared and was vigilant these things would be rare occurances...

    shocking....really is :x

i know richkids can be abused as well, but less so. for a start they r more aware of the importance of education and manners and want their kids to grow up well so they can have a god life. they dont live for the now. my son is fortunate to be enrolled in a local private school and i have signed lil un up as well. the kids seem much better behaved then kids i see in state schools. im not generalising here, so please do not be offended. i never went to private school as parents couldnt afford it but they really enstilled importance of education and manners into me. what im trying to say, people from poorer backgrounds can have a lack of sense of achievment for themselves and their children. lack of belief and will live for now rather than the future. where as the richewr people know and have benefitted from hard work and good ettitquetes.

baby p was always gonna struggle with his background poor thing.

He's probably right, However NOT every child from poor back grounds turn into yobs etc...

It's important to know that it's a minority of deprived children and generalising, Stereotyping these kids hardly does any good for the kids who have been in similar circumstances.

It's terrible what happened to Baby P and nothing in the world can justify what the abusers did and how badly the system let him down.

Sadly theirs thousands of cases similar to Baby P's all over Britain, Too many kids have to go through this sort of thing.

It's such a long process for SS to remove a child from a parent/carers care and then re-homing the child etc.

I think they need to act quicker and do their jobs correctly.

I think the poor family comment was more because statistically its more the case in poor families...stupid really though as there are more poor families around than their are rich families

Obvo being poor itself does not cause this

defo being poor itself does not make you a yob, but u r more likely to be from a poor family if u r lacking direction, not sayin rich kids stay on track either, just whats MORE LIKELY....... it al comes down to parenting ..... i think? cos my parents tried every trick in book with my younger bor who is a right git!

i live ina 'rich' area now and imo the kids are similar-just more spoilt. My daughter expects far more than her older siblings ever would have dreamed of....she wont get it ofcourse:p

position in family makes a difference as well. the younger ones get away with murder!!!(can u tell i am eldest!) saying that i got 2 lil uns and my younger ine is 2 but i am enjoying his baby-ness where as am always looking at next milestone for 5 year old. as parents youngest r always babies..!

yes unfortunately I believe that the likelyhood of that prediction to happen is high - even more so because of the background and the way he was raised, he lived aggression, abuse, pain...children learn from what they experience and become what they have lived. Yes someone can say that he is just being labelled but is only a very small minority in those circumstances who would rebel against the "label' and become a successful adult.
And I dont believe a minute about the 'relatives' claims that he was loved and his father knew nothing about it! Obviously if he was not aware or did not care to notice those bruises - at any time- then he was not playing an active part on his son's life. Not knowing is not an excuse, I am sorry. He should have know what goes on his son's life. Ignorance is no excuse.
The fault is not the Police, Social Services, Doctors -and so on, the cause is the loss of family and moral values, ignorance, that was a vicious circle which didn't start with baby P, I am sure the mother herself has been abused.

God bless baby P, all his suffering is now ended! xx
