What is a 'scart thing'??? Do you mean a scart lead or a scart junction box/switching unit?

Original Poster Banned

a scart that allows you to make your tv have more than 1 scart

I know the things you mean, I have some in the kids rooms hooking up VCR/DVD/Digi-box to the one scart socket in the tv. You can only run one thing at a time, so if you want to watch a DVD you have to turn the VCR and digi-box off and vice-versa, so try doing that :-D You can leave all the scart leads in place, just only have the thing you want to watch switched on

the digi box only goes to standby unless turned off at the mains:x i thought you could flick between them but obviously you cant unless you turn other equipment off:x Now im cross

If you want one you can switch on and off, then try this from Argos

argos.co.uk/sta…htm

there r ones out there with switches on the scart box thingy so tht u can switch the appliance off on tht rather than on the unit if tht makes any sense

Mine works, but you need to set up the system as follows;

Plug the single scart coming out the adapter into the scart socket on the TV, plug the scarts from your dvd, digi-box etc into the sockets in the adapter. Turn them all on to STANDBY. Turn tv on. Turn on digi-box and this should come on the screen automatically. To switch to dvd, you will have to turn the digi-box back to STANDBY, then turn the DVD player on, this should then come on the screen automatically. You will not be able to run both at once, as you only have one scart socket in your telly it can only process one signal source at a time. Hope that makes sense :-D

Okay, well with one on standby and the other one switched on, it should work fine, there should be no need to unplug either. It might be worth giving the scarts a wiggle, just to make sure they are seated in the sockets fully :-D

If you swap the scart leads over in the adapter, do you then lose sound on the other thing?, if so it might be a dodgy adapter? Always difficult to fault find from afar, sorry

They look the same, but one is for a wii the other a PS2, I guess you would need the right one for your type of console, but there's not much info to go on, other than in the link

Sassie, does your Freeview Receiver have 2 Scart Sockets?

If yes, try plugging your games scart in to the second scart socket on the Freeview receiver, then a lead from your Freeview Box ( TV SCART ) to your TV.

Now try switching one in to standby, see what happens.;-)

Its a common problem I cant give the technical term for it but I think its to do with the wiring.

I have had various scart blocks over the years from cheap ones to Tandy expensive ones(remember Tandy!) with the same problem

It seems games consoles are fine, but plug in a dvd player or freeview box and the sound goes even if the power lead is removed from the box.

I think this is because the scart cables used for freeview and dvd players are fully wired inside whereas console ones dont have all the pins wired(thats why some of the metal pins are missing)

Oh eck, not sure if its worth bothering getting another then, dont wanna pay another £7 if it dont solve the problem :?

We've always had this problem here as well and it made no difference whther the scart extender was switched or not.
So frustrating in fact that we just plug the console in using the red/white/yellow leads instead of the scart.
We can't tell the difference in quality but that's just us.

You might want to do that sassie to say you hassle, if of course your telly has those inputs.

Did that make sense ? Hope so but if I can help any more just shout

OOOHHH ! 5000 posts sassie , congrats.

it is only on a portable, so only has 1 scart no other holes (hope that makes sense too)

What, none on the side either Sassie ?

Sassie, thinking about it, can you not just use coax to link up the freeview to the TV thus leaving the scart just for the ps2 ?

I'm not sure about that cos we cant get freeview but I'm fairly sure most digibox's have coaxial connections ?

Cheers

I wouldn't recommend doing that. RF connections are naff!!!!

I bought one of those cheapy manual switching scart boxes a while back for the kids room (for a DVD/Xbox). That seems to behave itself ok. Not being used now he has his new TV - with 2 scart sockets!

Ive not heard of this problem before. Id have thought it would work or not work. Strange that the PS2 interferes! Have you switched the scarts over to see if that makes any difference? (I assume you have!)

Happens with us as well guv like I said.
Also the same with a gamecube.

I could never solve it apart from using the 3 pin way for the console.

Sorry about the info on the freeview thing, thought it might help, didn't realise it would be naff as no freeview around here.

sassie;1414828

I tried that yesterday, no good:oops:

Strange, it should work OK, oh well, worth a try any way.. ;-)

Belated happy new year to you.:)

The way I do it is simple but if you have kids maybe not

I just disconnect the freeview scart cable when not in use, or the console one.

May not be the best answer but its easier than taking it out of the back of the tv each time and much safter/

What I noticed about the cheap boxes as well normally only 1, 2 at most are stereo sound, I noticed before as I had a nicam tv and wondered why sound came through one speaker only so I changed sockets.

Especially the £1 ones.
