Things to do in Leeds when you're alive?

    Hi,

I would be very grateful if you could possibly help me out with regards to places to go out in Leeds? My girlfriend and I are travelling up tomorrow morning and will be staying until Sunday. Weve got the accomodation sorted out (Roomzzz) and I booked a table for us at Cactus Lounge on the Saturday night, so just wondered what we could do during the day both tomorrow and Saturday. No doubt if my girlfriend has anything to do with it we will be shopping at some point (although I dont mind a spot of shopping now and again - dont tell her that though! ;-) ) so was just wondering what places people would recommend really? We dont have a car so would ideally like to stay in Leeds or possibly travel out not too far on public transport if somewhere is worth going to. Anywhere and anything really, oh and I guess were on a bit of a budget as well. A few places to go for a drink in or around the Cactus Lounge area for after the meal would be good to know as well?
Dont ask for much do I ;-)
Any suggestions would be much appreciated, I have researched it a bit but would be good to hear from people who've actually been to places an that.

    Many Thanks

    WL

Just opposite Leeds General Infirmary! :w00t: :giggle:

2 pubs I can recommend for daytime vists are The Victoria...behind the Town Hall which is on the Headrow...and Whitelocks which is on Brigate (the main shopping street) you take a turn up an alley at the Northern Rock building Society.

Also make sure you look around The Corn Exchange (full of specialist small retail units) ..just opposite the huge indoor market..which is also worth a tour if you like markets.

Dare I say it..but if Leeds United are playing at home you could visit Elland Road..they need all the support thay can get...LOL

They are asking the supporters to wear numbered shirts so we can recognise the players!!!!:giggle: :giggle:

There is the Royal Armories museum...Its free to get in(i think)

Then there is the new The Light shopping mall.

And also the victoria quarter with all its boutiques and also Harvey Nicholls

also if the weather is decent a trip to Harrogate would be nice..about 40 mins on a regular train service...a really lovely Spa town with lots of lovely shops and Turkish Baths and of course Betty's tearooms...if you go have a drink in the Wetherspoons on Parliament Street...it is an amazing conversion.

And check this out the Valentines Fair is here......Starts 6pm Friday night

Wowee many thanks BeckyBoo and CurryChops, all you have suggested sounds just down our street, will definately check out the places youve suggested (well some of them at least - not enough hours in a day!)

I think it may be wise for us to put the ice skating as the last thing on our schedule! ;-) :giggle:

I like your way of thinking Sharon! :-D

    Good suggestion!

Didn't see anyone mention the cinema in the light...unless I just missed it.

Also bowling alley just behind the merrion centre shopping arcade.
Although I would recommend a trip up to one up near Kirkstall (hollywood Bowl) as it is a lot nicer.

There's the tetley brewery which I've always meant to visit but have yet to...

At least you've picked a big city to visit and not where I was born...Lincoln.

We spent a couple of years with only a one floor nightclub and single screen cinema!

We had to visit over New Year, and found a great pizza place. It is straight over from the Queens Hotel - near the station. It was 3.99 per person for an all you can eat buffet:-D . They had pasta dishes, about 8 kinds of pizza, garlic bread and salad. Pudding was serve yourself Mr Wippy type ice cream. Drinks were extra (not very expensive) but unlimited free refills (didn't apply to alcohol:-( )
