Think I have a problem with my pc.....

Found 25th Aug 2009
Hi,
Everytime I do a search and click on a link it puts up 'results2.google.com/' in the address bar and takes me to anyone of different search engines or advert sites and not the site I want to goto. For example I typed in hotuk deals, clicked on the link to this site and went to some site for eyecare via results2.google.com/.

I can only access sites I have on my favorites list.

I am using IE7, done a virus check with AVG and nothing.

Any ideas,

Thanks guys.

you have a redirecting virus/trogan/rootkit

How about a system restore ?

run Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool

can be obtained from their website

do a virus scan and a spyware scan if it finds it and deletes it and all is ok try a reboot if it is back you have a rootkit

try downloading free avast anti virusi as well as having avg.

so do i as the Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool download will not open just dispays cant show webpage....AHHHHHHH!!!!

did u use google for that

or www.microsoft.com in address bar?

First of all check a file called "hosts" in the C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc folder.
It should only contain comments (lines starting with a "#" character) and a line which says
127.0.0.1 localhost

If there are any other lines then remove them. Other lines will redirect your browser.
Then get anti-spyware and anti-virus scans going.
Don't edit the file with Microsoft Word. Use notepad or wordpad.

Can't disagree. If raptor says it is then it must be.

nod32 or kaspersky for anti-virus and then use a-squared free to check for other spyware:
emsisoft.com/en/…ee/

If you are a Barclays costomer and use the online service you can get kaspersky for free:
personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC…662

IIRC HSBC offers free McAfee.

gooredfix worked for me and it is included in avast. Download avast and run a full scan on bootup.Funnily enough spybot adadware and pc tools all failed to resolve the issue but avast found it
