Thinking about moving to Australia help wanted!?!

    Banned
I've been looking into moving to Australia in about 14 months and was looking to try find a website or somewhere who would have a bit of information from people who have done it.

I've searched the net but a lot of the sites are visa consultants which are coming up.
I'm not fully decided on emigrating totally or taking a working holiday for a couple of years. I would also qualify as a skilled migrant.

So I was just really wondering what the best visa options are? And also what are the direct expenses involved such as checks, visa etc (not flights)? So if anyone could point me towards a website or knows from personal experience that'd be great.

    Cheers

Wish I could just do that tomorrow

Me and the missus been looking at Oz, NZ and Canada. Fancy NZ the most. We got advised to rent our house out here rather than sell if we do, so not to burn our bridges.

There are a few companies that assist you with your application forms and virtually assure you of entry.... but they ain't cheap!

Oz has a point system for immigration, which you need to reach to be eligable. Having a trade wth a skill they want is a major bonus. A short while ago (dunno about now), they had fast tracks in place, but you had to agree to settle in locations they chose for you.

Dont think you will get all the facts and details you require on HUKD. You need to get an application for from Australia House (or where ever it is!)

NZ is a nicer country (IMHO), but economically, Oz would be a better choice. Canada is too cold and too similar in many respects to the US for my liking!

Aye, brutal but it has the advantage that it isn't the UK. And it isn't as far as down under for family

depends on what you do but you can go over on a WHV first for 2 years if under 30 or 31 cant remember. then have a scout about for work, they generally like to employ british/irish because they are used to working hard or long hours, ozzies are always on the sicko, compo or smoko

you can get sponsored by a company then after 2 years you get permanent residency after another 2 you can apply for citizenship. means comiiting to a firm for a long time but most will pay the fees for youwhich are roughly or you can try and go the skilled visa route.

i have gone for spouse visa and charges are just over £1000 all up including £300 for medicals/xrays and £100 for oz and uk police checks, no need for migration agent as this is 1 of the simplest visas.id estimate maybe 2-3 grand maximum depending on which route you go down

tons of useful advisee on those forums i linked, most questions have been asked and answered, never needed to ask anything myself after searching

My cousin is a chef out in Oz and recommended this site which links to all of the info you need, some sites that casparwhite has mentioned.

He got to pretty much choose where he lived as there was a skill shortage and he lives in Sydney....lucky so and so.

    Agreed.... Lucky so and so.

I used to live in the Eastern Suburbs - in Randwick. Just 15 minutes walk from Coogee.

They'll love me then as I'm irish but eligible for british citzenship must think i'd be a proper workhorse. Thanks for info Casper and gonna join that poms in oz tomorrow and get my head round everything.

Cheers Choc will check that out. Not even sure what part I'd be interested in but took the visa points test for skilled workers and passed so i'd hopefully get to choice where I can go.
