    Thinking of switching broadband provider...

    hey all,

Anyone help me, i am currently with BT on their top package (U pto 8 meg unlimited DL's etc) but i only get about 4 meg speeds.

I downlo... i mean aquire a lot of thing from the internet and havnt really noticed that i have been capped etc which is great, and i have had no problems with using my PS3 with the homehub etc.

But i have been thinkng of going with Sky, think its gonna work out cheaper wih TV, BB and phone etc. Anyone let me know if this is a wise move, do sky cap peoples downloads, whats it like playing PS3 via their router etc?

    Any advice would be great!

Can you get sky where you are?
    Worth a check ]here.

O2 mate we "acquire" lots of things to from the internet usually around 5-600Gig a month and have no problems with throttling from them ***touch wood*** speeds are constant and the connection steady and reliable.

Completely unlimited upto 8MB for £7.50 although we regularly see higher speeds than that.

i have just left bt and gone 2 plusnet waiting for the service to start so cant comment although they do come highly recommended winning 9 out of the 11 broadband awards

Erm, Plusnet is owned by BT.
    ;-)

The so called awards mean nothing, check out users feedback at thinkbroadband to get a truer picture.

I can highly recomend Be, i think they are part of 02, worth checking if you can get it. If you decide to i can recomend you, then you will get free connection and i get a month free

Highly reccomend, been a constant 7meg connection, 1meg upload, no hassle, download loads of stuff, relly good service

Another O2/Be vote from me... (And a neg for BT/Plusnet)

If there's is no LLU services (avoid talk talk) on your exchange I would suggest one of the Entanet resellers if you like gaming.

I can heartily recommend Entanet - I'm with Aquiss, my Dad's with newnet and not had any problems - Ring them (aquiss) and you'll find you get through to a network engineer, not someone at a call centre reading from a script, makes a big difference.

My aunt, rather than taking my advice, went with tiscali after seeing an advert in a paper (therefore, they must be good, right?) and has had massive amounts of downtime, and when it's been working it was pretty much diallup speeds. Cheap though, so I guess you pays your money and takes your chances? She has terrible trouble getting through on their helpline (an 0870 number iirc, so not much incentive for them to answer or fix her problem quickly...)

Me, I'd rather pay more for a decent service I can use. (30-odd quid a month for 330gb offpeak and 60gb peak(8am-10pm mon-fri))
And before anyone says that's an horrendous amount to pay, and you can get more bandwidth for less money elsewhere, bear in mind that's also with 2 360's running happily online and another son on star wars galaxies most of the time, and the wife and I browsing and downloading too - we're talking quality, not just quantity...
Main thing I find with the entanet resellers is they're small companies so value your custom more than the big guys like bt/sky/tiscali/pipex, none of whom I'd touch with a bargepole these days (Unfortunately, I have to at times as part of my job, but I've got no choice in the matter there...at home it's a different matter, however)
