This is a scam...right?

Have just received the following email. I am guessing this is a scam as I have only made one payment via paypal today, to Boots.com.

Can anybody confirm?

Dear PayPal Member,

This email confirms that you have paid WHOLESALEIPOD ([email protected]) $249 USD using PayPal.

This credit card transaction will appear on your bill as "PAYPAL WHOLESALEIPOD*".

login to your paypal acct and check

just dont click the links from the email go direct there in browser

pretty sure it will be a scam cause paypal address you by name not paypal member

but to always be on safe side logging direct into paypal acct without goin via links answers the questions!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!DONT click the link!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

forward it to

[email protected]

if it is dodgy they will let you know

hope you dont get scammed

BTW -what is so called email they want you to send it to

I am pretty sure when Paypal email you they use your full name, not " Dear Paypal Member ".

forward it to [email protected] stating you think this may be a spoof email and they will comfirm for you(dont click on any of the links on the email and put your details in)

Yep 100% BS. Just delete.

[email protected] is the address the email came from, which is what made me wary. Didn't click on the link, posted straight on here as I knew somebody could help me
Have forwarded it to the above address, thanks holly100!
Just checking through previous Paypal emails, and although it is the same layout, other emails do address me personally... unlike this one. Thanks guys, rep on its way!

Sounds like a big phat scam! I bet there is a link on the email but the link won't be to Paypal - it will be to a fake login screen which probably looks real. When you try to login they will tell you your password is wrong... if you got this far you have been scammed! You will really be submitting your username and password to a scammer.

If you are worried go to offical Paypal site, login and check your account history.

Have checked my Paypal account and nothing seems to have happened there. Thanks everyone, me just panicking!

Normally if you hover over the link in the email (do NOT click) the address for the link will be shown in the bottom status bar of internet explorer. I expect you would find it links to a www. that is not paypal. I really wouldnt worry about it, it is 99.999% junk mail. Just relax, your identity is safe

louise - just to make sure 100% - ring fraud line on credit card - number is on back of card and tell them not to pay anything to the company - explain about email - at least you are notifying them immediately if anything does happen

Ok, will do thank you!

Also the font on here is showing the email addy I copied and pasted as [email protected] but it is in fact paypai, only the i is a capital (which obviously looks like a lower case L)

wow another legit email that ppl are sayin is fake, cheers ive replied, great stuff, thatl add to the £100,000,000 thats coming my way nicely

if you want to know where the link will take you, HOVER your mouse pointer over the link and see the address its linking to on the status bar (the bottom bar of your browser)

(remember as others suggest: DON'T CLICK, just HOVER)

Lets put it this way the "30 gb ipod video in black" would have had me running a mile and at $229 ( £115) for an ipod that is 2 years old and that can be bought on ebay for £50 I'd say this scam was 2 years old too.

If your a little concerned and want me to check for you enter your details below.....:whistling:
