    This Years Holiday

Can anyone give me somewhere really nice and relaxing to go on holiday?

I am not one of those people who can just sit and read a book by the pool all day I like to get up early (8-9 is early on holiday) and go exploring the shops etc. I like to keep my mind entertained and much prefer visiting new places including shops (Surprisingly) rather than sitting by the sea or pool all day.

I think this time I would like an All Inclusive deal or maybe Half Board deal, definitely not self catering.

I have no idea where I want to go but I would like to go somewhere different and not where I have been before... different places not necessarily countries.

If I gave a budget I wouldn't really want to spend more than £600pp for 14 Nights.

Places I have already been that I remember:

    Portugal - Algarve
    Turkey - Ichmeler
    Turkey - Marmaris
    Majorca - Cant remember where
Spain - Benidorm (Wouldn't mind going back though)
    Greece - Corfu
    Greece - Rhodes
Tenerife - Playa De Las Americas

    Give me your best ideas....

    Cheers
    Dan

LMAO! That's where my parents went on their honeymoon

what about somwhere like salou? h10 hotels are good for half board, breakfast and tea free, you pay for drinks.

loads of shops in salou, buses and trains to Tarragona, Barcelona, and I can't for the life of me remember what is in the other direction, lol.

    Cancun!

    Canny beat Cancun!

    £500 - £800 for a weeks fully inclusive!

    Hi
I am from Spain, I would recomend you Gandia, it is a nice place and near Valencia (lovely city).
If you enjoyed Benidorm you may like Salou (with the amazing leisure park Portaventura), aparat from the beach... it is near BArcelona and TArragona so you can combine both.

I am from the North of Spain, and I know lovely places, but unfortunatelly if you are looking for beach and sun I can not guarantee it in the north of Spain.

Are you looking for beach, cultural, tradicional...?

Seems odd that most of the places you have been are sun, sea & pool places. Why not try a capital like Rome or even a two center holiday where you can get a cheap flight and organise a 2 town holiday.

Barcelona is great and then get an internal cheap flight to benidorm or even the train.

Florida - every time, never enough time there though!
Get a cherap fly drive ( prices come down, especially from London area) nearer date, as last year booked too soon friend booked in July for Aug and got same flight with virgin for £170 less - i.e. she paid £320, you can get a hotel out there for roughly £20 p.n. (not per person) some with free breakfast, eating is so cheap and they have Taco Bell, Brilliant- Wendys $1 everything i.e. baked potateos, chilli, salads - as you can see I am already excited about going back in August, I have a timeshare which I dont use, I am just in the system, so am allowed 14 weeks anywhere all over the world for jsut a small fee (small compared to what it would actually cost) staying at Cypress Harbout Orlando - absolutely beautiful, my advise to anyone - get a timeshare - HAD MINE FOR 10 YRS:)
By the way check out Cypress Harbour - I would never be able to afford staying in a Marriott Resort if it were not for my time share

What about Egypt.......you should easily get a fortnight all Inclusive for your budget, there will be plenty of tours to do as well and it's good for diving/snorkelling if you stay on a Red Sea resort such as Sharm-el-sheik or Taba.

Another destination I can personally recommend is Sri Lanka.I managed to go for a fortnight B&B for £400........beautiful island and lovely people, loads of trips to take(arrange yourself rather than with the tour operator for a much better price) cheap to eat and drink etc etc.If you fancy this destination look at First Choice for decent deals.:)

My family have a timeshare and we cant wait to get shot, yet they are impossible to sell :w00t: Were with an RCI, the 'maintenence' charges are steadily getting more and more expensive. But i guess everyones timeshare is different

I personaly can't think of having anything worse than a time share. couldn't go on holiday at the same time every year

Dont get me wrong I love the sun and pool but I can only sit still for an hour at the most without getting a compulsive urge to get up and do something.

I still want to go somewhere hot and have access to a pool and maybe a nice beach (Not too fussed about Sand or the Sea either).

Try GOZO maybe, just off malta, we got a villa there a few years ago and it was great.. could sit around by the pool, or we had bikes rented so could cycle around the island and to the shops etc, theres lots of nice old churches.

you need to take up something on holiday to entertain you, im a bit of a fidget bum on hol too so play a lot of golf, also tried scuba diving, a lot of places you can actually partake in your padi qualification while on holiday, and something new to see every time you dive, try sharm el sheik for such things, amazing hotels there too and loads of deals

Never really heard much about Salou, will have a look into what its got to offer and if i find something of interest I will let you know

Cancun is definately somewhere I want to go.... If you can find me a deal for around £600 preferably for 2 weeks I would be eternally greatful. That is one of my dream destinations but have so far never managed to find a good enough deal. :-(

Again never heard of Gandia itself so I will have a look into this too, I have been to Valencia as my Dad used to live pretty close but it was a quick visit so didnt really get an impression of it.

I count 2 votes for Salou so far so maybe thats a winner, can't believe I have never thought of looking into it...

Egypt is another place I definately want to visit, I know a few people who have been there before but I got the impression its not a particularly safe place at night?

It is somewhere I would be interested in If i found the right deal.

P.S. Dont you need loads of injections to go there still? (Not the biggest fan of needles!)

hey this is a great idea, i have looked at this before but never have time to take as i have a little lad too

oh as for cancun, be warned its not what it used to be its a bit more blackpooly now, i went ten years ago and it was unspoilt then but showed signs of youthful exuberence taking over and its a bit spoilt with that now, try jamaica if you wanna go way over there, maybe a week for that money but well worth it

Gozo added to the list to look up, never heard of it before so will try and find out what it has to offer, Now your type of holiday sounds like my type of holiday. Last time I went to turkey we hired a quad and flew around the island, went on boat trips etc.... I think holidays should follow this pattern....

    Day 1 - Rest
Day 2 - Look Around Resort
Day 3 - Rest, Look Around Resort
Day 4 - Book Trips, Explore
    Day 5 - Rest
Day 6 - One more rest day before your trips
    Day 7 - Boat Trip
Day 8 - Scuba Diving Trip
    Day 9 - Rest
Day 10 - Some sort of motored vehicle Trip
    Day 11 - Rest
Day 12 - Day Site seeing Trip
    Day 13 - Rest
Day 14 - Rest and top up the tan as much as you can!

    What do you reckon?

I agree I do, the problem I seem to get is if I lay in the sun I get too hot so I end up in the shade and stay white ... Or I can get up and walk around the resort without a top on getting a bit of a tan.

I have done scuba diving before and really enjoyed it. You may of just nudged me to want to do it again and maybe gain a qualification towards it.

2nd vote for Egypt... Can you answer my earlier post about the Injections?

Barcelona ticks all your boxes. Hot, sunny, lovely beach, great shops and loads to do. Not the cheapest of places mind.

You shouldn't really need any injections for Egypt.....maybe get your tetanus up to date and possibly Hep A(this is just like getting a tetanus jab, nothing to fear at all,and I'm a coward!)

As for safety..........my advice to anyone when travelling is to respect local customs and treat people with respect, just the same as you would at home really. As anywhere, keep your valuables safe and don't carry more money than you actually need.I've travelled to places that some would consider 'unsafe' and have never encountered any problems,in fact I've probably been more at risk working in and around some rough housing estates here than I ever have whilst on holiday!

Malta is fantastic for scuba diving. Lots of people go there just for that. Gozo is a bit small if you like going to shops, but you can always get the ferry to the mainland. Hiring a car would probably be necessary, but driving there is fine - they drive on the left too, although a lot of them are nutters and don't follow the basic road rules like stop at traffic lights, or give way on a roundabout.
We are off to Malta on Saturday to visit my family (I'm half Maltese).
In the summer time it gets incredibly hot with no respite. Despite being a little island in the middle of the sea it gets almost no breeze and the heat is very, very intense.
Having said that, it is rich in history and the Maltese are making an effort to spruce things up for tourists.
PS Always check your change after buying something!!!

Anyone know a site that lists vaccinations required by country?

I thought this was on the foreign office website but cannot locate anything except their advice to visit your GP :w00t:

Can you imagine if everyone went to their GP before going abroad!

This website seems to have a good amount of information ]http//ww…uk/

Remember though that to cover themselves they always err on the side of caution and that is why it's always best to check with your GP on what is really needed. If you contact your surgery they will book you in with the practice nurse(well they do at mine) so you will not be taking up valuable GP time,if that is your concern.:)

I was with RCI but am now with Interval International and they are brilliant, far far better than RCI:) I would never sell my timeshare, I love it too much, actually I havbe never been to where I own because I own In Laughne Park Wales and I can use all facilities there anyway and get Mon to Fri short breaks there for as charp as £30 so I bank it and save for something I really want, even then I dont use it because I have 12 weeks available to me (I only own 1 week - thats all anyone ever need own) as I am in 'the system' I can have 12 gettaways a year., Sorry you dont like yours but you really have to know how to use them, all my family and friends benefit from mine and owning in Seasons gives me seasons club membership for all the short breaks in luxury accommodation.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

me and my mates went there for two weeks last year and we had the best time ever. hotel was a bit shabby but we only ever went there to sleep and eat. most of the time we were just getting drunk on the beach, tanning ourselves and checking out the fleamarkets/malls. think we paid £800 for two weeks all inclusive and woke up with beers in our hands and brushed our teeth with tequila - alcohol on tap cant get better than that.

and the clubs there are ace - $40 (£20) for entry and drinks all night - cant beat that!!

    When do you wanna go?

Anytime after April the 18th, that ways gives me time to get my holiday authorised

if you wanted the dirt cheap prices, you should have booked january time but there still should be a couple of good deals floating around - try first choice

You should also consider not using a tour operator imo. In my experience, you can always do better yourself if you don't mind spending a day doing the research. The prices quoted by tour operators seem quite good until you factor in the per-person price compared with the per-room/per- apartment prices you can get yourself. For example, we got a lovely 2-bed, 3-storey house with rooftop veranda in the centre of Ronda, Andalucia for the four of us for two weeks. The total, including flights, transfers, and our spending money for the holiday (we were careful though and because we were with two small kids, went to basic restaurants, etc) was under £1200 - sorry, this was self-catering of course.
