I'm shedueled to pick up my girlfriend from thorpe park at 10pm this evening, She told me she would be working late due to fright nights fair enough. She started work at 10am this morning, She just rang me up saying that she wont be out till 11pm! Is this even legal? Are they allowed to make someone work that late? 13 Hours work? Shes just turnt 18 and shes a part time worker on the weekend sunday or saturday. I dont this is right and i'm very peeved if I have to wait 1 hour in the car park for her.

look at her contract nothing illegal about it but her contract may she didnt have to

I can work 15hr days legally, 6.30-21.30 with 1.5hr breaks, I think its the hours in a week that matters more than a day

direct.gov.uk/en/…426

I think as long as she has proper breaks after a certain amount of hours then they arent breaking any sort of laws.

My hubby went into to work at 7 pm te other night(doesn't usually do nights) and didn't get home till 3 the next afternoon....I say the same to him...slightly different as he is the manager and so chose to do it but tbh what choice has he got?!! I don't think they can MAKE her do it but they probably asked her and she said 'yes of course' not wanting to let them down!

You can work however may hours, breaks or no breaks if you like. You can not be made to though. Sounds liek they have asked her to stay on and she's agreed.

Before she only used to work from 9pm to 6pm and now because of fright night they are making her work that long straight I dont really think it's right in my opinion. Shes been working later and later. She told me the actual park closes at 10pm but the people still waiting to get in a ride are allowed to keep waiting. Therefore when the final person in that que is on the right they can finally cash up and then close the till down hand in the money and get to go out by this time it will be 11:30 at maxinum. I've had to wait and hour and half because of this once last week.

She could have also signed a opt out as well, I did this for my current job as at times I need to work very long shifts. (2o hours+)

John

i think its more to with how the hours are done ie breaks and the gap between shifts, these are now governed by the european working time directive, employers can still have you working ridiculous hours though. and people do not want to say anything for fear of losing job etc.

I did a 14 shift hour last week. As long as her total time over x months is an average of less than 48 hours or she's signed to say shes ok with working more than 48 hours a week there's nothing illegal about it. As this appears to be a one off, working time directive probably doesn't even apply. HTH.

Lol!

i work for the nhs and we now have to have 11 hrs between finishing 1 shift say today i worked till 9pm i couldnt start work tomorrow until 8am instead of 7am like i used to;-)

heres an idea.. set off an hour later than you were gonna to! :x

My boyfriend is a police officer and can sometimes work up to 20 hours in one go if he has prisoners to book in or special jobs like kidnaps etc! If there's nothing in the contract saying about maximum hours, then she can work as long as she likes! There are a number of issues such as voluntarily giving up your right to work less than 48hrs per week but it depends whether that's her only shift! The only thing I would point out is that usually there has to be 11 hours between shifts. Sorry if that makes no sense, I'm rather tired!!!

I work 72hrs some weeks, others only 24hrs....though I think it averages out at 42. Just make sure she's getting enough breaks

I work 24 7 with my job in the Army

Have you ever thought she wants to work. Then think about why???

I see you are the one moaning, and she is fine with it... Just move on, you are not wanted, she is probably happy with the nice guy who operates one of the rides.. and wants to work late. You are just a cheap taxi...
