thoughts on a dual core processor

i want to build myself a pc and want a dual core bundle been looking on ebay and novatech etc but a bit stuck on what to get? first thing first is amd or intel? my last pc was intel and fancy trying a amd set up but whats the peoples thoughts?

i have been trying to look at what people have said on the internet and from what i can find the amd dual core 5200 seems like a good pick, but am i wrong?

looked on misco last night and saw a amd triple core bundle with motherboard ( in there bundle section) for £117 it was a phenom type .

basically for around £140-£150 whats the best bundle i can get ? any thoughts or comments on selection would be great! thanks.

Are amd still making new stuff? I notice Intel have new developments regularly but I don't hear much from the amd side.

They are, but they haven't brought out anything that can compete with Intel's Core 2 range in performance. (and Intel are going to replace that range later this year)

The only area where AMD processors seem to be favoured is in the low heat HTPC market where their energy efficient processors like the 4850e are popular because the AMD motherboards are much better for playing HD video.

There's a Phenom X3 review ]here that has the 8450 X3, compare it to the similaly priced E7200 in the benchmarks and power consumption.

EDIT: There's certainly nothing wrong with the AMD processors and on their own they're fine, so you wouldn't lose anything if you wanted to go for one, you just wouldn't be getting the best value for money or absolutely optimum performance.

Intel's cheapest Quad-core the Q6600 is a very good deal at the moment, although it is around £100-110 so that would a basic £40 motherboard would be near the top end of your budget.

I don't know what's best at the £50-70 price point.

There aren't enough programs that can utilise quad-core at the moment. It'd be good future proofing to get one now but also a bit unnecessary.

found this bundle for £105 looks good to me but maybe some one who knows more could confirm?

    dual core e2180 ( 2.2mhz ) intel
biostar mobo- tf715ou-m7 has hdmi connection and states that its future proof ( doubt that the way pcs upgrade all the time ) looks like a decent purchase then i still got £45 to buy memory

That's TF7150U if anyone's trying to search for it: biostar-usa.com/app…305

You can buy the motherboard and CPU seperately for £95 so the bundle isn't great value unless that price is with delivery. There's a similar bundle ]here for £90 without delivery.

Someone posted a good link this weekend should give you some help.
Iand imo think Intel are best buy at present over AMD
