Thoughts on Panasonic Viera 50" HD Ready Plasma TV TH50PX70B and price

Found 24th Feb 2008
My husband wants to buy a big tv and has been told that the Panasonic Viera 50" HD Ready Plasma TV TH50PX70B is a good tv. I think it may be an older model though as it is quite a good price for a tv this large. Has anyone got any thoughts on this model? I think you can buy it for between 1200 and 1500. Is there anything comparable/better for this price? I quite like the split screen/screen in screen function and this does not have it.
Also does anyoneknow if there is a review site for tvs?
Thanks very much.

i just bought one from digital direct for just under 1200,took 4 weeks for delivery which pissed me off,but superb tv,best for the money

Panasonic are an excellent make, when I have the money I will certainly be heading for this manufacture. Have you tried Which who offer a 30 day trial for a £1 and they have all the latest reviews.

Right it is the Panasonic Viera 50" HD Ready Plasma TV TH50PZ70B and not the 50" HD Ready Plasma TV TH50PX70B which is about £400 difference. I am just trying to find out what the difference is between the 2 models. Thanks.

ok - what is the difference between full HD and whatever non full HD is? Do you think it is dangerous for someone as unknowledgeable as me to be buying such an expensive tv!

Why would it be dangerous?

Serously, the best thing you could do, is pop into your local comet or similar and take a look at both of them.

The PZ model is the full HD model. What that basically measn is it will display a 1080P image, whereas the other only a 1080i image. Confused? Dont worry. In laymans terms, it means it will display a higher resolution image (ie more dots per inch.)

If you are intending on getting HD TV from Sky, then either set will be fine as they can both display the full spec being broadcast. But if you are going to invest in Blu-Ray, then the PZ will display a better image.

If you were just buying a 42", Id probably say dont worry too much, but for a 50" and can spend the extra £200, then its a must IMHO.

But as I said, let your eyes be the judge...... And whilst you are in the shop, have a look at the LCDs and let us know your opinion. (I get fed up of hearing LCD fanboys saying LCD is better - when it isn't...... and you can verify your opinion and thoughts. I wont bite if you hate what you see.... honest!

Thanks very much for this. My husband has just said for me to say thanks as now a knowledgeable person has told me he has found a good tv he can stop searching for information on them. I will let you know what we think - we went to a showroom on Saturday but to be honest when I see loads of tvs all showing the same thing I can see very little difference between them.

Get them to display a Blu-ray disc and then your eyes will pop out at how clear the pictures is - even just a foot or so away. And if they cant... go to another store.

One bit of advice. Look for the best deal you can and see if you can get a price match and a free 5 year warrenty. eg with ]John Lewis

They should price match with the one I posted earlier.

If they refuse... keep trying. You will get there in the end. Persistance will pay off (and save you money and a free 5 year warrenty.)
