Tiffany necklace, how to prove authenticity?

A friend of mine wants to sell her BN Tiffany necklace but she doesn't have the receipt as it was a gift 2yrs ago. Is there anyway she can prove it is authentic in order to help with the sale?
    Thanks in advance!

does she live local to a tiffany boutique? they could authenticate it

although a receipt doesnt prove its genuine really, you could keep the genuine item and sell the fake off with original receipt, its usually pretty easy to spot fakes

Be aware though if it's fake they are in their rights to confiscate it.

Sassie, not sure tbh will find out though. Are they the only place to prove it's genuine? It is 100% genuine, was an 18th Birthday present from her nan but since she doesn't wear it/like it she'd rather sell.
    Thanks

i am not sure whether a jewellers would authenticate it or just confirm its material, suppose she could ask at one that does valuations

could she not discuss it with her nan and ask for the receipt, explain she would like to replace it with a piece of jewellery she would wear

maybe send them an email and ask how you could get a piece authenticated

Tbh I'm not sure that would go down too well with her nan, and 2yrs down the line I'm not even sure if she'd still have the receipt...

I'll get her to email them, there must be someway. It's just people won't pay if they don't believe it to be genuine iykwim & she doesn't want it to go for pittance.

Thanks for your help Sassie, I'll pass it on

sorry i couldnt have been more help, but have emailed tiffany myself once for some info, and they where extremely helpful, so worth a shot and i know what you mean about people wont pay, but like i said a receipt or valuation doesnt really prove anything other than to who owns it at time of purchase or valuation

she also needs to be careful where its sold, as if sold on ebay all it will take is someone to buy a genuine and claim it be fake

She has it on ebay atm but will prob take it off. I told her to be careful with the buyer claiming it's fake, and to perhaps security mark it in someway or cash/collection even.

yes she is taking a risk on ebay, tiffany is high on fakes and paypal will always side with the buyer

louise i reckon it would be pulled on here for proof of authenticity too, but you could check with a mod, but seen a few items pulled for proof of authenticity

how about advertising in local newspaper, ours do free adds up to £200, at least the whoever buys is paying cash and can see the item themselves

Yeh that's true, I think I'm going to email them for her & try to get it authenticated & go from there, or list it locally. I don't feel comfortable with it being on Ebay, even though it's not mine but I'd hate for her to be ripped off.
