Until the animals we eat become sentient to that near of mankind, my problem with meat I think will remain health based rather than ethically based, of course others are entitled to their view.

Food Inc etc started my thinking of this but if my tightwaddness can be satisfied too, all the better.

Agreed, we can't help that our bodies evolved to require meat to stay healthy. I think those videos though are just highlights of very poor animal rights, would like to think that's not the norm in our country.

UK has higher than average empathy for animals compared to most Western Countries imo, which is fine, but can be, for me personally, slightly nauseating.

7billion people on the planet, most of us will see that hit 10billion, China massively acquiring arable land in Africa virtually colonising the continent, no way can it support so many meat eaters long term, the resources needed for meat compared to locally grown veg is astounding.
UK Society returning into Victorian times of the poor only being able to afford vegetables will come back, just a long time from now.

I want to but too lazy to turn some of my garden flower beds into veggie beds, my mini orchard has done very well, over a hundred plums picked in the last 3weeks easily.

Convenience has ruled and will rule for a long time to come.

You should have left it. Vaggie was much funnier.

As far as the thread topic, I simply couldn't imagine going without chicken, beef and bacon. Ethics, prices whatever- nothing would stop me eating those. Anything else though, I could happily live without.

Nah.......the vegetarians will be weak enough to cull and eat (_;)

I love the sausage and some meat and two veg too much to give it up. lol.
Nah, its bacon and roasts that would break me, I could never be vegetarian or jewish.

Beans on toast, (extra rat) is nice

I'm also strongly considering becoming a veggie myself for ethical and health reasons, must admit watching food inc was probably the catalyst. I would love to eat free range only but it's so bloody expensive, there was a recent study reported in the guardian that said veggies are 40% less likely to get blood cancers and 12% less likely to get other cancers.

I am seriously thinking of becoming a veggie.

I no longer eat chicken because I have recently rescued some battery hens.

might try it for a month see how I get on, from speaking to veggie mates the first few months can be a bit windy

Why do you think all non meat eaters are weak?

told my wife yesterday i'm becoming a veggie, she's not taking it well lol

I took my wifes meat free burger challenge tonight, My daughter and her friend eat my quarter pounders and I got a quorn burger instead, she said it would be better than the meat version, she topped the burgers with cheese, onions , mushrooms and relish and she was right they were better than the meat version.
