    Timpson, Iphone battery replacement

Got my Iphone battery replaced, the phone charged and worked fine before, it had 15% battery after replacement, that died and now the phone doesn't charge at all :(( anyone know what the problem may be? Or had an issue like this? Thanks

You might want to checked they're authorised by Apple to repair it, otherwise you just lost your warranty with unqualified repairs.
Go back and explain the issue, then ask to see some certification that they're been trained and authorised by Apple to pull your phone apart, if not then demand they replace it otherwise any rights you have under the sale of acts act is null and void.
Game (Via total console repair) once done similar thing on an Xbox and Microsoft then bricked it, Game then had to replace the entire console.

Not really, again with my situation, Game told me it would be sent for a repair, I never gave it a second thought until M$ bricked it, when I questioned Game they said they only used qualified people for repairs, as M$ don't have a repair training program I asked how they could be qualified, they couldn't answer it.

So basically if a well known high street company says they can do something, you generally have faith they're telling the truth, I can't find anything concrete but it seems Apple do not have any repair programs as all repairs are done in house, so Timpson should not of agreed to do any work.
Samsung do have authorised repair centers, is it down to the owner to check first or should cowboys not take on repair work after watching a few youtube videos ?

Timpsons have a 12 month warranty on their repairs.

They should have checked before they started it was in good working condition. They normally do a checklist.

How long ago was it repaired?

12 month warranty means nothing of they're neither qualified nor authorised by Apple to do repair work.
What would happen if something else breaks that Apple would repair ? as soon as they see it's had a 3rd party repair, you have no leg to stand on.

Play hardball and you'll get a new phone out of this, ask to see the proof they're authorised and trained by Apple to do the repair, when they can't do that, tell them you now fear for your safety because of this botched battery repair, mention the Samsung phones that had dodgy batteries and there is no way you can let this phone in your home where your family sleep.

Only a brand new phone will put your fears at ease

Why would they offer him a free pair of shoes ? was that an attempt at humour ?
Timpson repair shoes, they don't sell them, so your suggestion is they give him a 2nd hand pair of shoes, what does the original shoe owner get ?

If you look on their website you can see they do advertise Mobile Phone Repairs
No where do they list shoes for sale
They don't mention they're qualified or authorised to do the repairs, only that their technicians "have years of experience" - So does the guy on Youtube who posts guides, doesn't mean I'd let him have my phone though

I can only only assume the smiley at the end means your jesting?

The OP has 'contracted' Timpsons to do a repair on the handset, if they couldn't fulfil that contract, then they need only return the handset back to the condition it was in prior to the repair and refund the OP the amount paid.

Apple warranty doesn't come into it as the OP has authorised a 3rd party to undertake a repair, the fact they are/are not Apple authorised is up to the OP to investigate BEFORE repair.

Your first point of contact is to invite Timpsons to fullfill the contract you paid them to do, replace the battery, if they cannot, as above they may return the handset to prior condition and refund your money.

Problem you may have then is Apple may refuse to repair/replace the battery as you've used an un-authorized repairer, meaning you have to then go to another 3rd party repair shop to replace the battery..?

It might just be a faulty battery, who knows.

    Just go back to them.

I presume the phone is older, and no longer warranted by Apple anyway, otherwise I'm guessing you would have gone to Apple.

I had a battery replaced by Timpsons in an iPhone 5. It has been perfect since.

Go have a chat with them.

    Nope, I was deadly serious.
If Timpson are repairing phones that they have no training to do then I wouldn't accept it back, If they were authorised by Apple then they would have a direct supply link to genuine parts, as they are not then you have to wonder where this battery came from, Is it a genuine part from a 2nd hand phone or was bought cheaply online with a claim it was genuine but absolutely no way to verify it.

No way on earth I'd put this phone on charge in my house without knowing the answers, the fact remains they should not be doing unauthorised repairs by untrained 'technicians'.

As far as I am aware Apple warranty their products for 12 months?

The fact that the battery was replaced presumably means through wear and tear that it is older than 12 months?

Maybe I missed something in the original op's post that says the phone is less than 12 months old? If it isn't, what is this to do with Apple anymore?

    Answer: nothing.

Yes it was a joke sorry Mr serious but the op hasn't really told us how old the phone was so it doesn't really matter. Even I'm Timpsons isn't a authorised agent of apple it just has to fix the phone there's no laws against unathorised repairs alot of places do them they don't all get sued if something goes wrong that's why Apple and most other companies state if it's been repaired by an unathorised person the warranty is void. that doesn't necessarily mean timpsons have to provide a brand new phone either. the batteries probably a duff one or the connections come loose just go back and see what they say.

Anyone can change the battery in an iPhone, no one has suggested anything useful really. First of all, I would check that the charger is not faulty, then second I would try the reset (home and sleep/wake button) - failing that, take it back to Timpson and tell them to sort it, end of. They will sort it and this will all be over!

why are people rambling on about Apple ? If it was within g'tee the OP wouldn't have taken it elsewhere. therefore having it changed outside of Apple's facilities is nothing to do with Apple at all as the phone is out of g'tee.

just take it back and complain to the people who worked on it.

Is it illegal to replace components and/or repair Apple products?

    No.

Is it the end users reponsibilty to ensure any repairs are undertaken by manufacturer authorised repair centres?

    Yes.

As said earlier, the OP needs to return to the store who undertook the repair, explain the problem and give them the opportunity to rectify, they may install a new battery and all is good, or they may decide its 'beyond repair', in this scenario they may return the handset to same condition prior to repair and refund any monies paid, leaving the OP no worse, or better off.

No, when replacing the battery you have to remove the battery and screen connectors on the logic board, it's most likely that one of these hasn't been placed correctly. So all that needs to be done is hav the connectors re seated.
