Gadget show - what a joke!

never needed to try it, my router works 2 doors down with a decent signal, already too good!
also works at the bottom of the garden, in the garage and behind a metal door

must be to do with walls in some houses blocking the signals more than others do

foil may boost the strength, but wouldnt it cause reflection issues and muddle the signal?

Surely it will weaken the signal as the wave has to pass through a metallic surface. The waves won't be reflected as a thin layer of tin foil, is very thin, and the frequency of the wave is low, it won't do anything more than wrapping it in paper would.

lmao,

it would work until you need to use your wireless device on the otherside of the wall, then you would have multi-path distortion aplenty and a high rate of re-transmitted data, its a complete fail.

I know, trust me having to do wireless surveys with actual results from all sorts of hospital environments, including LINACS

it wasnt wrapping the router it was at the back of it stood up … it wasnt wrapping the router it was at the back of it stood up http://demand.five.tv/Series.aspx?seriesBaseName=TheGadgetShow watch it and see what you think jb doesnt usually lie ;-)

I'll pass, that show like top gear has gone down the pan recently. Turned into lets do loads of stupid things that they enjoy and add a tiny bit of information at the end about the product. Half the stuff they say is very inaccurate.

Maybe it does work, I read that it may increase the range if done right buy makes the signal more directional, so would mean if your using say a laptop in many places it would be of little use

Did the Gadget Show do an April Fool this year ..........or was this it ? :-D

My router on one side has a radiator, youd think on the 'bad' side it would be adversely affected, it really isnt
the signal seems to work the same distance either side, so tin foil wont be better than a metal radiator

I think as above it was an april fool, the footage they showed went from 'unavailable' to fully green bars

i don't doubt it, for internet and low bandwidth usage, it must not be forgotten that whatever the speed advertised of the either 802.a/b/g/n protocols you are still using is half duplex connection, therefore nit is half the 'advertised' speed which is fine if your broadband doesn't peak above that or you don't do alot of large file tranfers locally.

Yes signal improves significantly upstairs with a foil under the router and a mirror on the ceiling to redirect the signal:thumbsup:
