    Tmobile G2 (Hero) update questions....

    Hi all,

Mrs Phil001 has the above phone with whatever firmware came with it when she got it (about 6 months ago).
Wanting to update to 2.1, gather this is available for this device now.

    Can anyone advise me:
    -Where to update from
-What data is lost during an update (eg contacts, messages, apps, settings etc etc)
-How to best backup the things that are lost, before i update it

    Many Thanks

i'm waiting for the 2.1 update from 3 mobile which should be released in the next couple of weeks. not sure what the situation is with tmobile though. when it is ready, you should get a message asking if you want to update (best done over wifi). my other half got her update from orange recently and it makes a big difference in terms of speed and apps etc

oh and my oh didnt lose any data during her upgrade, not sure if that was just orange though.

looks like you should have received it by now according to here

thanks for the info, think theres a pre-update you have to do if you dont get offered it automatically though.

just not sure how you backup everything

i have the same problem, if you go to the htc website theres a download to run before updating to 2.1.......havent done it due to not finding an easy way to back my phone up.

I updated mine a while back, no data lost as such, although I had to re-organise my home screens etc.

Anyway, to update, go into the settings menu, then scroll down to "About Phone". Open this, and there should be an option in there somewhere to check for system software updates...

yep, just been reading about this on androidforums and Your text here

i assume contacts you can just sync with gmail (which mrs doesnt use!) and there seems to be programs to backup apps. Thought there would be something that just backs up everything on the phone and then reinstates it all afterwards....

    just to complete this thread...

updated it at the weekend, all went ok.
Synchronised phone to outlook express via HTC sync to backup contacts.
Didn't bother backing up apps as there was only a couple (you can back them up with the 'Astro' file manager which is a free download from marketplace)
    Thants it really.
Downloaded the first update from the HTC website, as soon as that had installed the phone said there was an update available, let that install itself and job done. Took a while to do, but worth it.
